Basic guidelines in using ATV Ramps

Summary: Ramping up ATV is no chore. Just read on for basic guidelines on using ATV ramps.

While others make ramping procedures as easy as getting a shoe on, others find ramping their ATV is difficult as their annual Tax compensation. True, others are born with the stuff but in actuality, ATV ramp procedures are so easy it doesn't require one to practice before committing to do it the first time.

Here are some guidelines on the ramping process and preparing for it. If you follow these simple guidelines, there won't be any problems with your operations. Anyone with an average IQ could do ATV ramping provided he follows these basic guidelines on using ATV ramps..

Choosing ATV Ramps

On a wide runner ramps, the width of your ATV's wheelbase should be the reference of the ramp's width. Likewise, if you prefer single runner ATV ramps, the width distance should be at least as wide as your tire.

The standard size ATV ramps are to be used on smaller pickup vehicles. The longer ramp is intended for larger trucks. And always check the capacity of the ramp and the load of your ATV. If you think your ATV is heavier than the load capacity of the ATV ramp, then, some of the ATV ramps allow pairing of two ramps to enhance load capability.

Starting the ramp procedure

Always park the pickup vehicle on a flat and firm surface. And be sure everything's off and secure with your pickup or trailer before beginning the ramping procedure. Secure means the brake is set and the trailer (if you use one) is secure.

Position the ramp on a hard packed ground and on the trailer bed at the lowest possible angle. Connect the ramp to the truck. If you are using runners, make sure the ramps are spaced to match the wheel base of your ATV. The ramp should fit snugly and securely.

Next, install the safety cables so that the ramps are supported tightly against the trailer bed.

Recheck the load capacity of the ramp and the current weight of your ATV. Do not load your ATV with heavy gear during this process to prevent ATV ramp overload.

If you can, always use a winch in drawing ATVs up the ramps and onto the trailer bed. But if not, you can ride your ATV up the ramp although you have to do this slowly and carefully. Acceleration should be smooth and slow. Remember, accidents happen mostly on this part of the procedure, as some would accelerate quickly or fall on the ramp's side. If you have no past ATV ramp experience, do use the winch.

It is always suggested that if you operate heavy equipment you should do so in the presence of other people..
