A Guide To Aromatherapy Oils

Aromatherapy is the use of essential and absolute oils to help deal with stress and physical discomforts. Essential oils are highly fragrant, volatile and complex substances, and have varying degrees of volatility, complexity and fragrance. Aromatherapy oils are extracted from various parts of fruits, flowers, spices, leaves, woods and roots.

The essence molecules of a plant are located between the cells, and these molecules act as messengers and regulators. They not only give the aromatic essence to a plant, but are also the life forces protecting them from diseases and parasites.

Uses Of Aromatherapy Oils

Aromatherapy oils are used in massages, baths and vaporization, but these oils must never be used on the skin directly. They are mixed with base oils such as grape seed oil, almond oil, evening primrose oil and apricot oil. All aromatherapy oils have different properties, and are used for different purposes by mixing them in the ratio of 5-20 drops of essential aromatherapy oil to 100ml of base oil.

While taking bath, add 5-10 drops of aromatherapy oils to the water, and have a refreshing and relaxing bath. A diffuser is used for vaporization where a cup is filled with water and some drops of aromatherapy oils are added to it. Oil wick or candle is lit under it, and room gets filled with the vapors of essential oil giving mesmerizing aroma.

Massage with aromatherapy oils helps in releasing tension and pain in the neck, back and shoulders, and deal with migraine, headache, general pains and aches, constipation, excessive tiredness, fatigue and insomnia. There are some emotional aspects such as anxiety, irritability, depression, aggressiveness and lack of confidence that can be cured by using aromatherapy essential oil massage.

It is important to understand that massage must be done by using aromatherapy oils, and not fragrance oils or perfume, as artificial fragrances cannot give the therapeutic benefits offered by natural essential oils.

Aromatherapy oils can vary greatly in terms of price and quality. There are various factors that affect the price and quality of these oils such as conditions the plant was grown in, rarity of the plant, county that the plant is found in, amount of the oil produced by the plant, and quality standard of distiller.

Aromatherapy oils are sold in small bottles, and can also be purchased as blends. Buying the blend will help you save money, as you don't need to buy the individual oils separately.

Aromatherapy in itself cannot cure a major illness or stress, but it can definitely help deal with the symptoms causing a physical condition or stress.
