How Aromatherapy Body Massage Works

Aromatherapy body massage is a kind of massage therapy where the person is kneaded and pounded to relax the body and the mind. In aromatherapy body massage, a person is usually slathered with oil and then massaged. There are instances of a different kind of aromatherapy body massage where oil is not applied on the person's body; instead, the fragrance is diffused into the air for inhalation. The properties and the effects of the more common herbs and botanicals are discussed in the aromatherapy massage course.

The Influence Of Our Sense Of Smell

The limbic system in our body plays a big role in helping aromatherapy penetrate our body and help it. There are cases, though, where the aromatherapy massage oil in itself does have properties that can help the body just by applying it on the affected area. Aromatherapy body massage does help the healing properties of some oils to penetrate in to the skin. The role of the limbic system in aromatherapy body massage is also applicable in spite of the other way that aromatherapy oils may help through direct application. As the properties of the essential oils are absorbed through the skin, the properties can also be infused in the air through diffusers or the mere act of applying them to the body and massaging.

The limbic system is the one that controls emotions and has a great deal of say on the function of hormones and the nervous system. As the individual undergoes aromatherapy body massage, the nostril inhale the fragrance of the massage oils and it is transmitted to the limbic system. The limbic system in turn affects the many different systems in our body such as the respiratory, circulatory and digestive systems. Depending on what fragrance is used in the aromatherapy body massage, the limbic system practically dictates to the body how it should react.

Aromatherapy body massage is beneficial to people because it helps to clear inner tensions and stress as well as positively affect the digestive system, circulatory system and just about all other body systems. In spite of the positive response of many people to aromatherapy body massage, it is not suitable for everybody, especially those with some allergies.

Aromatherapy body massage can also be done by the person but with some limitations. Not all parts of the body can be sufficiently massaged by the person. The head is one part that may be massaged effectively for the best possible effects of the aromatherapy oil.
