An aromatherapy candle is a light source that diffuses specific scents and aromas in the air when it is in use. For some cases, the scent of the aromatherapy candle is quite strong that even when it is not lit, there is still a lingering scent from the candle. In spite of its origins being from alternative medicine or therapy, the use of an aromatherapy candle may have some dangers when the aromatherapy candle itself is not made properly or used properly.
The scent used for an aromatherapy candle is added to the wax as it is being melted. Herbal essences are usually added to make the scented candles. Scents can have different effects on people.

An aromatherapy candle is basically the same with ordinary candles except for the scent that is added to it to bring about the aromatherapy aspect. Tallow used to be the primary material used for making candles but the danger it poses is far more sinister than that of paraffin wax which is why many candle manufacturers are looking for other options to it.
Paraffin wax is the cheapest wax available which is why there are a lot of these around. The problem with paraffin wax is that it has residual dangers for those who inhale the smoke and soot that comes when it is burned. The soot can line one's airways and contribute to conditions and diseases that are related to the respiratory system. It is best to use candles made with paraffin wax in the outdoors or in a large open space to minimize the dangers of smoke and soot inhalation.
Beeswax is one of the most recommended waxes to make any kind of candle. It is basically and organic resource made from the substance found in a beehive. Aromatherapy candles made from beeswax are basically safe to use even in an enclosed area, in terms of inhalation. The aromatherapy candles or any other kind of candles made with beeswax burn clear and have little or no wax residue.
Aromatherapy soy candle products are also quite safe and organic when made properly with organic soy beans. A wax hardener may be used when making aromatherapy candles from soy wax since this is a softer wax compared to paraffin wax. Its consistency may be comparable to beeswax.
