BUILDING A MEDITATION GARDEN

BUILDING A MEDITATION GARDEN

Summary: A garden as a good tool for a successful meditation.

Meditating in a garden? Why not? Whether it is “built” in a small space in a city residence, or a large area in your country property, a meditation garden is a perfect place to relax anytime you need to.

How do you go about “building” you own meditation garden? A good tip is to find the right spot within your property. Consider a spot where you can do intensive planting. This is effective for those who can spare only a small place for their meditation garden. If this is the case, the best thing you can do is to double dig the areas where you want your trees and shrubs to be planted. This method is done by digging a hole on the ground with two times your spade’s depth. This allows you to space your plants close together making room for more. Aside from that, you can have a mixture of organic fertilizer inside the hole and plenty of room for roots to grow and for the water to drain.

Some of those who have “put-up” a meditation garden of their own have added numerous accents like a gazebo, small ponds, pathways, park benches, or trellises with flowery vines. Basically one’s meditation garden is a personal solace. So adding highlights into it should be from personal choices. A meditation garden after all is your own personal space for finding peace and serenity.

A lot of meditation garden theme samples are available online. One popular meditation garden design is the Japanese style. This particular style of meditation garden does not focus on symmetry. Rather, it focuses on being natural -- nature itself. There are several principles involved in the Japanese design, but what is perhaps the most important is the meigakure (may-gah-koor-ay). This concept which means being hidden from sight, gives the Japanese design of meditation garden its mysterious quality.

There are also helpful online sites to help you create a meditation garden for spring, summer, autumn, and even winter. Some gardens though are perfectly capable of being your place of sanctuary at any given climate. The most common things about these gardens though are their fondness for the different elements like rock, wood and water. Abundant greenery seems to be the best “composition” of a meditation garden. Most obvious reason would be because, nature, plants especially, let us connect with our inner selves more easily. Merely watching the leaves swaying can stir our different senses.

A meditation garden does not promise to solve all your worries. However, as a place of comfort, it will definitely let us have better and happier times in our lives.
