The Traditional Naturopath

Naturopathy is a form of alternative medicine that believes in a person's capacity for self healing. There are actually several different kinds of people who practice this form of medicine. Although, they have similar beliefs, their ways of gaining knowledge and applying it can differ. The traditional naturopath has similar practices and beliefs of other people who practice naturopathy.

The Difference Of A Traditional Naturopath

The traditional naturopath essentially gains much of his knowledge from the basics of the different forms of alternative medicines and does not officially go to any naturopathic medical schools. The basis of the traditional practitioner lies on treatments and cures that are handed down from different forms of alternative medicines.

These types of doctors get their knowledge and training from training programs geared towards traditional natural medicines. There are also licensing courses and boards that are specifically for the traditional naturopath. The traditional practitioner is actually an alternative to traditional medicines compared to the more modern types of natural medicine doctors who really aim to cure or treat patients using natural methods as well as some complementing traditional medicines.

In spite of these differences, this kind of doctor ultimately seeks to cure his patient using more natural means initially before resulting to traditional medications or synthetic drugs. The traditional naturopath usually does not aim to treat a disease or to diagnose a patient. Instead, he evaluates the patient according to his lifestyle. The traditional naturopath ultimately believes that almost all diseases are caused by our intake of food and beverages as well as the lack of exercise and other unhealthy habits the patient may have.

These ideas and practice is based on the older forms of alternative medicine that follows the premise that a healthy mind and body is one that is free of diseases and sickness. The naturopath that follows these ideals is the traditional healer that aims to treat the patient by overhauling the body and mind. The overall state of the patient is the focus of the traditional natural medicine practitioner rather than specific diseases or conditions. In this way, the traditional practitioner believes that teaching the patient self healing can ultimately treat all conditions present in him.

Naturopathy may be the practice of self healing but not all methods are the same. While the more modern practitioner may focus more on the disease rather then the overall state of a patient, the traditional one focuses on the big picture. The fact that the patient has a disease means that there is something wrong with the normal functions of the patient's body.
