Saw Palmetto Improves Prostate Condition

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is treatable using finasteride and terasozin HCL. Alternatively, saw palmetto improves prostate condition the natural way without side effects. Several studies have produced promising results as to the efficacy of saw palmetto in treating symptomatic BPH such as hastening urinary flow, decreased overflow incontinence, and shrinking the size of an enlarged prostate as in the case of BPH.

Found in the southeastern region of the U.S., containing essential oils like lauric acid, palmitic acid, oleic acid, myristic acid, polysaccharides and plant sterols – saw palmetto improves prostate conditions the natural way. Studies still are not able to explain how saw palmetto improves prostate condition, but the essential oils found in its fruits are the plant's active constituencies.

The culprit that causes BPH is an increase in the hormonal byproduct compound dihydrotestosterone or DHT that signals the prostate cells to multiply abnormally. This happens when the hormone testosterone drops in production, which occurs with age. BPH is characterized with painful urination, frequent urination, and overflow incontinence. Saw palmetto acts as an inhibiting agent that hinders testosterone from converting into DHT. Aside from this function, the fatty acids in saw palmetto improves prostate condition and helps prevent prostate cancer by balancing hormonal level in both sexes. Prostate cancer in one aspect is triggered by hormones.

From findings of some researches, saw palmetto is especially more potent when combined with other herbs like stinging nettle and pygeum extract. Both herbs work similarly with saw palmetto and finasteride in relieving symptoms of BPH. Vitamin D3 is also found effective in keeping a healthy prostate.

Since the middle of the 1980's, at least 10 studies, not to mention double-blinded studies including, on over 1,000 patients all throughout Europe agree with the long tradition that saw palmetto improves prostate condition. Recently, in a study that lasted for three months 88% of patients (with their physicians) expressed an improvement in urinary flow, urinary voiding, and a reduction in prostate size.

Today, saw palmetto is in wide use in Germany, Italy, Austria, and other European countries as an alternative for the symptomatic treatment of BPH Consumers must be warned, though, that saw palmetto is not yet regulated in the U.S. nor is it recognized by the FDA. To learn about its contraindications, patients are advised to talk with medical practitioners prior to taking any saw palmetto supplements. Although saw palmetto improves prostate conditions, the 9,500-member American Urological Association warned that saw palmetto might be masking the symptoms of invasive prostate cancer so that it's important to consult with a physician on your prostate's condition.
