Hybrid Car Gas Mileage: Remarkable Or Still Meh?

With the current trend of gas prices, spiking high at $3 without hints of going down anytime soon, consumers are beginning to see that holding onto the gas guzzling SUV isnt worth the extra expense in the coming years. But yet, consumers are still tentative at best on purchasing, even trying out hybrid cars. One of the biggest concerns remains the hybrid car gas mileage.

So the ultimate question would be: does our hybrid cars have significant car gas mileage sufficient to warrant a purchase? Lets examine our options.

First, lets tackle something thats obvious: an SUV. Due to their heavy weight and big engines, not to mention the powerful drive train, light truck vehicles like SUVs eat more gasoline than standard size cars. And sadly, SUVs were quite a sensation for some time that the vehicle already accounts for a sizable percentage in the car population. An average car gas mileage for an SUV is somewhere 18 to 25 mile per gallon depending on the car model, engine condition, etc Now, its been confirmed that a hybrid SUV adds around 30% to 50% of the car gas mileage, so its pretty something. Lets see this comparison.

Ford Escape Hybrids Fuel Economy: 28.5 mpg at the city, 29.2 at the highway

Jeep Liberty Sport CRD: 22.7 mpg at the city, 31.1 mpg at the highway.

While the Ford Escape might have exertion when compared stat by stat against the direct injection turbodiesel Jeep Liberty, what it has is remarkable car gas mileage compared to the latter. A 5-mile difference is already a 5-mile length of bragging around. So that gives you the Ford Escape Hybrid as an SUV utility coupled with an economy car fuel miserliness thats great for family oriented functions.

With hybrid sedans like the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight, the car gas mileage is even better. Both cars have been leading the hybrid scene as the most fuel efficient, environmental friendly vehicles. The Toyota Prius has a fuel economy of 48 mpg on the city and 45 mpg on the highway; the Honda Insight has 46 mpg on the city and 50 mpg on the highway. Some even claimed that babying the gas pedals enough could net around 90 to 100 mpg, though of course such claims are regarded as too far-fetched. But still.

The newer hybrid cars released every year promises even better car gas mileage; thanks to the improvement of the batteries is one contributing factor. Others models have taken other areas of interest, such as better performance in hybrid cars. Or else could be seen as performance cars with a touch of hybrid capability.
