The Challenges Waiting For Trials Motorcycles

Trials motorcycles are motorcycle types aimed for a non-speed category of motorcycle events, Motorcycle Trials. Quite popular in Spain and in the United Kingdom, Trials attract a worldwide attendance of competitors, willing to test their mettle against other riders from all over the world.

The event, as its name already implies, subjects drivers and motorcycles through a series of obstacles, giving them trials. As a non-speed event, it tests the balance and control abilities of a driver. Ideally, trials motorcycles are lightweight, with features similar to off-road motorcycles used in Motocross and Enduro events, like short suspension travel figures. More often than not, Trials motorcycles are rigged with short seats, as they are ideally ridden "standing up", for the more balance and control this position on motorcycles benefit.

Trial events, with its various twists and turns, basically focus on the premise that a driver goes through a course without his/her feet touching the ground. Obstacles may be man made, or natural, like rock formations, as the event could be held indoors or outdoors. Designated routes are established, as "judges" keep score on a rider's performance, taking note of the times a driver would touch the ground, or fall off from his/her motorcycle.

The event is altogether a different breed of motorcycle competition, deviating from the "need for speed" aspect of motorcycles, focusing on just how well a driver is in control of balancing a motorcycle. From outdoor trails, to indoor man made obstacles, the variations of Trial Motorcycle tracks prove to be quite a challenge for both the motorcycle driver and the motorcycle itself.

A world indoor and outdoor Motorcycle Trial championship exists, as well as teams, which are indoor and outdoor oriented. Dougie Lampkin, a British Motorcycle Trial runner, is known for winning seven titles through the 1990's to the year 2000. Sammy Miller from Northern Ireland, Jordi Tarres from Spain, and Yrjo Vesterinen from Finland, are also among the notable personalities of Motorcycle Trials, having won their respective titles in Motorcycle Trial events through the years.

Though not exactly required, an off-road motorcycle would do well for a Motorcycle Trial event. For major competitions, there are specifics to consider when it comes to Trials motorcycles.

To date, trials motorcycles are out in the market, produced and specialized for Motorcycle trial events. With leading manufacturers like Beta, Gas Gas, Sherco, Montesa Honda and Scorpa, these trials motorcycles are built to support the demands of Motorcycle Trials.
