The Endurance Of Eduros Motorcycles

Enduros are events which belong to a category of motorcycle sport. They are basically long distance races predominantly held on off-road courses, and are aimed to test the riding endurance of a motorcycle driver, whose endurance is complemented by his/her enduros motorcycle. Enduro drivers have to deal with pre-defined time schedules between trail checkpoints, making enduro races a highly competitive racing event.

The roots of enduros date back to 1913, in the International Six Days Run, which was set to truly test the reliability of a motorcycle, as well as driver, out in the field. The event still takes place to this day, with a number of variants spinning off from the original long distance event.

Today, most enduro events now take place within a two day time frame, but the six days time frame is still being kept, standing true to the origins of enduro races. Drivers ride on enduros motorcycles for enduro events. Enduros motorcycles are motorcycles geared to compete in Enduro events, and are calibrated to optimally perform in an Enduro race. Enduros motorcycles are specialized for the particular nature of Enduro Races, and are based on the suspension system of a motocross bike, integrated with the required features to make motocross bikes legal for public road use.

Enduro drivers are expected to maintain their own enduros motorcycles, handling whatever damages and repair solutions to them on a personal level, which would happen during an enduro race run. As engines and wheels aren't allowed to be replaced during a race, most master enduro drivers could change a flat tire under four minutes. Such is the skill required for enduro events.

Enduros motorcycles often come with single-cylinder two-stroke engines, ranging from 125 and 300 cc, and four-stroke engines ranging from 250 to 650 cc. Recently, the four-stroke breed of engines are becoming more of a standard for Euduros events, as they are much more environment friendly, with performances ideal for euduros events.

There are two known variations of Enduro races: Rallies and Hare and Hounds events.

Rallies are geared for enduros motorcycles which function optimally on less challenging terrain. The enduro event includes a number of tests and are often joined by less competitive drivers.

Hand and Hounds Events are set on a given number of laps to be done under a particular time frame, usually under three hours.

The British Championship and European and World Championship rank as two of the most coveted enduro racing events in the world, paving an avenue for drivers to test their skills, as well as their respective enduros motorcycles.
