The Speed Of KTM Motorcycles
Founded in 1934 by Hans Trunkenpolz, what started out as a metalworking shop named Kraftfahrzeuge Trunkenpolz Mattighofen, is now known as KTM Motorcycles, an Austria based motorcycle manufacturer, and a leading brand name in the world of motorcycles.
Technically, the KTM name stands for Kronreif Trunkenpolz Mattighofen, as Ernst Kronreif, became a shareholder of the company, which started producing motorcycles by 1953. By then, the speed of KTM Motorcycles were noticeable, not only in their performance but in their production time frame, which, with only 20 employees, three per day were made.
KTM Motorcycles. Fast indeed.
KTM Motorcycles is not only known for their motorcycles' speed, but is also known for a number of firsts when it comes to motorcycle production. KTM Motorcycles is the first manufacturer to utilize a liquid cooled four stroke engine for off-road motorcycle types, a standard feature utilized by most motorcycle manufacturers today. Suzuki motorcycle radiators were supplied by KTM Motorcycles for some time, during the early phase of the liquid cooling days.
The concept of rear and front disc breaks on off-road motorcycles was first done by KTM Motorcycles in 1986. Again, another brake standard often asked for by motorcycle riders all over the world.
1998 KTM Motorcycles sired the first linkless rear suspension system, which significantly reduced the overall weight of the motorcycle. KTM Motorcycles is also the first to manufacture Supermoto competition-ready bikes. KTM Motorcycles is also the first to release hydraulic clutch mechanisms on all their motorcycle models.
KTM Motorcycle's off-road bikes are often highlighted as the brand's major line of products. KTM Motorcycles' 105 SX stands to be one of KTM's popular models, designed for motocross, and/or other off-road racing events. Its single cylinder 2-stroke engine is liquid cooled, as it's six-speed transmission levels offer a varying degree ideal for dirtbike racers, who value speed and control during a race run. Front and rear disc breaks, a Keihin PWK 28 ignition, CDI fuel system, 1.32 gallon fuel capacity, and a dry weight total of 129.94 lbs, KTM Motorcycles' 105 SX is truly the "dream machine" for any motocross enthusiast, professional or amateur.
KTM Motorcycles' 200 XC is another popular KTM Motorcycle, boasting certain similarities as the 105 SX, as the motorcycle is still liquid cooled, as well as powered by a single cylinder 2-stroke engine. Its overall dry weight is 220.1 lbs, with a fuel tank capacity of up to 2.25 gallons. A digital ignition system powers the bike, as a Keihin PWK 36mm AG fuel system brings it up to terms with its 1933cc engine displacement figure.
Thorough the years, KTM Motorcycles have made their mark on motorcycle history, with their wide range of motorcycle types, specialized for specific face events, or geared for general public use.
All in all, the speed of KTM Motorcycles, as well as the technologies underlying each of them, is bound to change motorcycle-world for years to come.
