The one thing that salespeople should realize is that you have to get through the secretary in order to get to the person in charge. You have to treat the secretaries good so that you can get what you want. You should never be rough with these employees because they could just be your meal ticket to getting the sale completed.

There are a few tips to help you get past the secretaries when you are trying to land a sale. You need to remember to always keep a good tone of voice. You want to sound pleasant but do not sound odd. You need to make sure that you talk loud and clear so that they are able to understand you and what you want. Think about the people that call you and try to sell you something. You will want to make sure that you are talking in a tone and manner that will be appropriate for the sale.

When you talk to a secretary, you will want to be sure that you ask for someone by name. You need to know who is charge of the purchasing so that it sounds like you have already spoken to him about it before. If you do not have their name, you may want to do a practice call a few days ahead of time and ask who is in charge of this category. Usually the secretary will not let you talk to them at that time because they will realize you are a salesman. However, when you call the next time you will have their name and this will help you get your foot in the door.

Always be curious. If the secretary will not put you through to the person that you want to speak to, you have to be nice and talk your way through it. Knowing the right words to say is very important when you are trying to get past the secretary. You may want to think about what you are doing first before you start calling around to different places. You need to be sure about yourself and have the confidence that is needed to be aggressive.

Make sure that you are assertive when you are trying to make a sale through the secretary. You know that most of the time the secretary can determine if a call is important or not. They are going to be the one person between you and a good sale. This is the main reason why you need to be sure, of what you are doing and keep clients interested and excited about what you are doing.

Think about the things that you would want to know about something that you are being sold. Are you informing the secretary well enough so that he or she can make the final decision on if you are important or not? You will learn through your experiences that you have to be on the right track and ready for challenges that are going to come your way. Being held up by a secretary can truly be discouraging. However being a very committed sales person is going to help you learn the different techniques and get past the secretaries that can hold you back.

It may be a good idea to make friends with the secretaries so that you can get them to hear what you have to sell. If you are going into a business to make a sale make sure that, you bring along some good for the secretary. You will might try candy or some kind of other treat to persuade her to hear your sales pitch and become a dedicated customer.
