Camping Survival Guide:
Tips For Campers Like You

You are out in the wilderness – there is only the quiet outdoors, the dark of the night, the sound of animals nearby and the lonesome fire you built near your tent – you feel alone, yet you know you are not. Wouldn't this have the makings of a great adventure?

Camping will be able to provide a unique experience for you and those with you. At each time, it will be a new adventure with lots of fun and thrill to go with it. Being close to nature and the natural elements will really provide for an experience beyond compare.

Camping – A Life Changing Experience?

You will surely come out from it with heads up, knowing you have survived the wilderness. You know you are now of a different breed – and a real man at that. Women will find it a life-changing experience as well. With the survival skills they have acquired first-hand, they know they are more capable of taking on any challenges that may come their way – as they go back to their real world.

Your children will not only enjoy camping, they will love it. Perhaps at the start, they may have some fears – but that is only natural. They are experiencing a completely new thing with lots of factors beyond their control.

The kids will see it as a new environment – where unfamiliarity is in the air. Yet after some time, they are sure to appreciate the exposure to such experience. When they go back to tell their friends about this, they will be proud of themselves and will have the confidence necessary for them as they grow to maturity.

Camping provides for a time away from the current civilization we are in. It is as if you are moving back to the past, experiencing what it was like then living without all the technologies available for us today. No television, radio and other devices that keep us entertained all day long.

A Few Survival Tips For Campers

Gear Up Appropriately.

In order to increase your chances of survival in the wilderness – so to speak – it is necessary that you equip yourself with the right camping gear.

One of the most important gears, especially for first timers – is the sleeping bag. Would you believe how much adjusting you need if you don't have one comfortable sleeping bag?

If you have been used to sleeping soundly in your own comfy bed, you may have a lot of moving & turning to do before you finally get to a comfortable sleeping position inside your tent. Unless of course you have already been so tired after hours & hours of hiking, this may not be that big a problem – and yet many still are unable to get a good night's sleep during their first night out at a new environment.

The most important camping gear perhaps is your backpack. This is where all your stuff gets into. And if you bought yourself a quality backpack and one that fits your body frame well – you made an excellent choice. Consider the size of the backpack as well – it should be fitting for use on that particular camping session you will go to.

Choose The Right Clothing.

Dressing yourself with the right camping clothing will help you survive the outdoors. With the changing weather, you should plan well for clothes that fit to a particular situation.

Go for synthetic clothing as this will dry quickly. Cotton made clothes will hold water making it hard to dry – which is pretty much dangerous in cold situations. You may get hypothermia as the cotton clothes won't keep you warm.

Your socks should also be made of synthetic material or of wool type. These types help prevent blisters. You should also have a good pair of boots for any kind of terrain. Your shoes should be one that will be safe for slippery conditions as well.

You should also avoid dark colors for your clothing as this will attract bugs. It is best to go for light-colored ones. These will not only keep you away from bugs but will keep you comfortable especially in warm weather conditions.

Get A Good Tent.

If you are new to camping, you may not be so sure of what type of tent you want for yourself. You don't have to worry a big deal about this, as you can always rent a tent on your first time outdoors.

On your second time around, you may have been able to compare things based on actual experiences. And with other campers around, you will get to see the different types and forms of camping tents available for you.

At which time, you should have checked each, and be inquisitive enough to ask other campers about their tents and preferences. You will learn a lot even from a casual talk with fellow campers – and you will receive first hand feedback from someone who actually has experience.

Screens are preferred by some campers due to the fact that it weighs less and its mesh keeps the bugs off at night. This type also allows for free flow of air. You may also have the option to unzip the upper portion so that you can look at the stars above.

Get a tent with two doors. This will be practically useful when there will be somebody with you. With two doors, your partner can get in and get out without hassle and without disturbing you so much – and this actually works both ways.

There are also tents that allow protection for you against water from the ground -
keeping you dry all throughout the night.

Get a tent that is suited for your camping trip. Your consideration should be function and the comfort you will get out of it.

Bring Important Camping Devices.

Whistles will be useful for you outdoors. If you should get lost, you can blow the whistle for other to know where to find you – and so that they can go to where you are.

This will also be good if you have kids with you. Kids easily get lost – and as they have the natural adventurism in them, they are most likely to wander around – not knowing they are away from the campsite. Unable to find their way back, kids can make use of their whistles to make known their position.

Compasses will be of good use for experienced backpackers. It will give you directions to where you currently are and where you want to go.

Have Enough Sleep.

You may spoil yourself with the too much fun experienced in camping. You may enjoy the company of co-campers with you at night, that you lose sleep. And while it may indeed be a moment to grab upon – you should also balance this out with having sufficient rest.

Getting a good night's rest during camping will be your way to keeping the energy level high all throughout the camping time. You don't want to go dreary one morning just because you lacked sleep the previous night.

Lack of sleep will eventually catch up with you – and you'll be on your way to irritation and boredom. You don't want this to happen to you – as you'll take the fun away from the activity and all others around you will be affected as well.

Choose Your Camp Strategically.

Set up camp to a location fitting to be so. Avoid the greens or grasses as these will soak up water – waking you up early in the morning on a sponge.

Look for a place that does not have many rocks – and is flat. Make sure it is a place where you and your co-campers will find the place comfortable. It should also be away from pests and animals.

Watch out as well for trees that may have dead branches that is just waiting to fall off. This will be dangerous for you. Choose a location that will not have too many risk factors.

It is also important to keep the food in designed containers so that this will not attract animals from nearby. You don't these animals from the wild trying to get their hands – and feet perhaps near your food, and exposing risk to you & your companion's safety.

Be Mentally Prepared.

You should take time to prepare yourself mentally and envision yourself surviving the outdoors. The wilderness is nothing like your home – where everything you want is there for your taking right away. The comforts are not there – and luxuries are not available in the outdoors for you to take advantage of.

It is a completely different story being in the outdoors – camping and living under the sky. Your patience and determination will be challenged from time to time. And your fears of the unknown will play a major part in your day-to-day experience in camping.

With a strong will however and the confidence of making it through and surviving the outdoors – will give you a good chance out there. The wilderness is not for the faint of heart – they are not for boys, they are for men.

Enjoy Camping.

Your purpose in taking on camping should be for the fun of it. The experience is all worth it – and without a doubt, one to do in this lifetime.

With all the preparation done, and with all the camping stuff ready – embarking on the journey outdoors should be the best thing that you have ever tried in your life.

The beauty of nature, the companionship of fellow campers and the adventure of the great outdoors will be more than enough reason to make this journey - one you will never forget.

Surviving The Wilderness

It may be considered a challenge for anyone who goes out to the wilderness and try to live there. Without the comforts of home and the technology of civilization, each camper will do his best to survive the wilderness. With only a limited set of tools & equipment for camping, individuals make do of what they have and maximize its use while they are outdoors.

But with good preparation, camping will be more of a fun activity than a challenge to be overcome – which is the way it should be. Camping should be a venue where one can enjoy the beauty of nature and experience what it feels like with only the bare necessities. It should also be a time where one learns to appreciate more nature and its bounty.

While in our daily lives we tend to neglect or take for granted what nature has to offer, at such camping trip – we are given the opportunity to rediscover the value of nature.

The silence & the darkness of the night is so commonly neglected while we are at home. Yet when it is all the we have, and with only the moon providing the night light – we begin to appreciate the peacefulness of it – giving us the opportunity to reflect on the day gone by. With it, we are able to look deep into ourselves and know ourselves better.

The sunrise and the sunset gives us a better perspective of thing. It makes us realize facts of life – that while there may be times we lose hope, there will always be sunrises that will bring us back to life. Witnessing sunrise will make us appreciate the vastness of the sky, and the possibilities that life can offer.

Camping in the wilderness or in any outdoor setting will be one that is enjoyable and life changing. However and whichever way you look at it, this is an experience everyone must try and do for themselves. Alone or in groups, with friends or with families – whatever your fancy – just do it, and camp your way towards a new & better you.
