Architects Are Their Own Boss

Architects may have some of the most enjoyable benefits but difficult professions in the work force today. About 1 in 4 of every architect is self-employed. Statistically this is more than three times the proportion for all related and professional jobs. To become licensed in the field of architecture it takes a professional degree from a creditable school of architecture, a minimum of 3 years as an intern getting practical work training, and a passing score on all separate divisions of the Architect Registration Examination. Those who actually obtain a degree in architecture face serious competition over jobs working for some of the most prestigious firms.

Since our society is one that is ever expanding people need places in which they may work, live, shop, eat, and do various other activities. Each of these places may be open to the public or private; outdoors or indoors; or rooms, buildings, complexes, and together, they make up towns suburbs, and cities. Architects , a person who is trained in the art and science of building design and who is licensed as a professional, take these ideas and put them down into concepts. Then he uses the concepts to create images and plans for buildings that can then be used for construction by others. The architect designs everything about the building from the aesthetics and looks to the other structures within it. However, the building design involves a lot more then the how it looks.

A building must also be safe, functional, and financially affordable for the people who use them. The needs of the client also have to be met by the plans of the architect. Architects do specific services for individuals and organizations that are planning a construction project. Architects are often involved with the entire process of development for their building. They are present from the initial meetings with their client through the actual construction of it. Their job is a specific set of skills which are designing, engineering, managing, supervising, and communicating with contractors and clients. They must also be able to explain in detail their ideas to clients, construction contractors, and other people of a professional level.

A skilled and successful architect is one who is able to converse their concepts in a way that persuades the client to pay for it. Discussion over the objectives, requirements, and budget of a project goes on between the client and architect. Sometimes the architect will do many different pre-design services for the client. These services may include and/or pertain to selecting a site, conducting feasibility and environmental impact studies, or specifying the requirements the design is set to meet. For instance, the dimensions of the building may be configured based on how many potential users there will be for the building. The architect will then present the client with drawings and a report about their ideas. After the initial agreements for the buildings specs have been made between the architect and the client, the architect prepares final construction plans that display the buildings overall look and details for it’s construction. Architects are very involved in their field, so if you are looking into it as a career then prepare to be dedicated to your work ethic.
