Becoming An Architect Online

Becoming an Architect Online

What exactly is architecture? It is the art and science of designing and building structures. The subject of architecture is a vast one, encompassing designing, planning, constructing, the environment, landscape, materials, and even furniture placement. Most people who want to become architects can get some of their classes through online programs in architecture and drafting.

Can you become an architect by studying online? If you are looking for classes in drafting or architecture, you can usually find many options these days online. Basic accredited drafting and architecture classes are available for just about anyone to enroll in. These classes are convenient and can get you started in your higher education in no time at all.

As of this moment, there are no complete degree programs for architecture and drafting online. At the most, the architecture student can get most of his or her accredited classes online. However, there are many programs that have partial or continuing programs to enhance the careers of professional architects. These classes can also help students who want to someday enter a full-time program in architecture or drafting at an accredited university or trade school.

Some online architecture schools offer degree programs and basic training. If you plan to explore subjects that would enhance graduate school, then the four year bachelor's degree program is the better choice for you than a lesser program.

Online curriculums in drafting and architecture can include basic lessons in design, permit consideration and field evaluation, basic plotting, blueprint reading, mathematics for drafting, drawing, sketching, setup and lines, text commands and modifications, isometric and three-dimensional designs, dimensioning, building codes for beginners, pathologies in buildings, columns and walls, foundations, parapets and decks, roofs, materials, utilities, etc.

While to become a licensed architect, you have to graduate from an accredited school of architecture, there are accredited online drafting and architecture classes that are created for individuals who are going to take the NCARB's Registration Examination (ARE). Common to these types of online classes are building design, electrical systems, materials and methods, mechanical systems, general structures, lateral forces, construction documents, and pre-design. Some online schools of architecture and drafting that are accredited will specifically design their classes to cater to businesses and organizations by offering online classes to licensed drafters and architects who want to stay up to date on the most innovative and current methods and applications.

Becoming an architect requires a dedication to education, a long internship, an extensive examination process, dedication to the creative process, attention to detail and the resolve to finish projects. It is always wise, as with any educational goal, to carefully examine the online course that you are considering taking to see if it will meet your educational needs. For example, the course may sound perfect, but may not be needed in your course of study, or the course may not be accepted toward the degree you are trying to earn. If you are interested in online study in architecture or drafting, you can visit the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).
