The Benefits Of Becoming An Architect

In today’s world, a person needs a good paying job to do much of anything. Architecture is a great paying job and if a person is interested in the field they can enjoy it’s many benefits. It takes education and dedication to meet the requirements to hold a degree in architecture. Students still attending high school that are interested in pursuing a career in architecture should take a college preparatory course that includes the following: English, mathematics, physics, art, social studies, history, and foreign languages. It is also useful to attend courses in computer science and business. In the majority of architecture schools, they offer degrees through either a three- or four-year master’s program or a five-year bachelor’s program.

Most students who are pursuing a degree in architecture choose to seek out the bachelor’s degree in architecture. Most go straight from graduating high school to the 5-year program. Although doing this is the quickest route to obtaining a degree, it is a good idea to first make sure you want the degree. The courses needed for study are so specialized it is hard to transfer into another field if you changed your mind. The master’s degree allows for a person to have the ability to change into a different field of study, but takes longer to complete. If they choose to go down this course, students first must earn a liberal arts degree, then go on to obtain a master’s degree by completing the program.

An average college architecture program includes courses in architectural history and theory, the technical and legal aspects of building design, science, and liberal arts. A certification or licensing is then acquired for the architect to obtain. A license is required for each individual to obtain before they can contract to provide architectural services in all states including the District of Columbia. Although any still work within the field without licensure, licensed architects are required to take legal responsibility for all the work done on the structure. A licensed architect is less risky to use for many projects than an unlicensed one is. Architects who are licensed normally take on the projects that contain larger responsibilities and have a greater chance to advance into executive or managerial positions.

The requirements for obtaining registration papers include graduation from a school that is accredited in architecture with at least three years of practical experience as an intern inside of a licensed architect’s office before the individual is even eligible to take the four-day long Architect Registration Examination. Due to the fact that most state architecture registration boards require a professional degree, students that are still attending high school are advised to apply for admission to a program that is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board, early in their senior year of school. The competition to enter these programs is very high. The students class rank, grades, and aptitude and achievement scores count heavily to determining which student will be accepted into the program. Remember it is never too early to start planning toward a future career as an architect.
