Types Of Food Catering: Pros And Cons

An important consideration when food catering for your event is deciding on the kind of service that you will be using. There are two popular types of service for food catering namely the buffet and the sit-down style. The buffet style is one in which different types of food are served from the buffet table, which may also sometimes be known as a self-serve food station.

A good thing about buffet style food catering is that guests can pick which food they like to eat. Moreover, they also get to choose how much food they will consume, thus helping to minimize food wastage. Also, the cost of food catering buffet style is also usually lower compared to the sit-down type of food catering. However, a disadvantage of having a buffet style food catering is that some guests may not be able to get some dishes, especially the most popular ones as these are what would usually be picked easily and would thus run out quickly.

On the other hand, the sit-down type of food catering service involves servers. The sit down style provides convenience to guests since they no longer have to stand in line to get food or drinks, as the waiters or food servers will already do the job for them. Many people also view the sit down style as a classier way of food catering service, which is usually done during formal events and gatherings.

However, a disadvantage of a sit-down food catering service is the cost. Usually, the number of guests is directly proportional to the number of servers needed so that if an event has more guests, the party host may need to shoulder more cost to pay for more food servers, if, of course, s/he wants to make sure that serving of food goes about well and smoothly. Moreover, a party host may also not be getting total assurance that the food servers would easily attend to their guests’ needs and be courteous to them as well.

Whether you decide to have a buffet style or a sit-down type of food catering service, it is important that you first study the highs and lows of each type of food service so that you will be able to know which type fits your needs best. Being able to make the better choice can make your event a pleasurable and satisfying experience for your guests and can give you a sense of fulfillment as well.
