The American Association Of Medical Assistants

Founded in 1955 by the Kansas Medical Assistants Society, the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is one of the most well-known medical organizations in the United States and the world. It was founded by the leadership of Maxine Williams mainly for one purpose - to increase the professionalism of medical assistants.

The American Association of Medical Assistants is a non-profit and tri-level organization that is dedicated to promoting the professional identity of its members. The group is linked to the individual state societies, as well as to the medical chapters in particular counties. With this connection, the membership offered by the American Association of Medical Assistants is highly available at the state society and the county chapters where the medical assistants dwell.

AAMA's Mission

The American Association of Medical Assistants was founded with one great mission. The mission is basically to help the medical assistants to perform their tasks and responsibilities with the highest level of professionalism so to meet the demands of the medical employers and patients. They wanted to enhance the medical assistants' skills and knowledge on the medical field to help them perform the tasks properly and smoothly. Aside from that, the American Association of Medical Assistants was founded to protect the medical assistants' right to practice, and to promote a highly efficient delivery of health care services through the use of the multi-skilled Certified Medical Assistants, also known as CMAs.

Services Offered by AAMA

The American Association of Medical Assistants generally offers education and credentialing for those who wish to join and learn the nature of medical assisting. With this foundation, the American Association of Medical Assistants offers courses and training programs for their members. They conduct these trainings to allow those who wish to enter into the medical field to strengthen or enhance their professional skills so to help them perform the responsibilities entrusted to them properly. The trainings are also offered to help medical assistants advance their knowledge about everything related to medicine. Workshops and self-study courses are also offered, and all of these are considered for professional growth and recertification.

Speaking of recertification, the American Association of Medical Assistants is currently featuring their certification and recertification services for those who wish to practice medical assisting in a highly professional manner, with a certificate in hand. This service is, however, offered through examination which is typically handled by the National Board of Medical Examiners. This examination is considered as a requirement for the aspiring medical assistants to meet in order to gain a better status and a better chance to find a stable job in the medical field.

The American Association of Medical Assistants is considered nowadays as the only association in the world that is devoted exclusively to the medical assisting profession. The association is continually growing with more than 300 local chapters in the United States today. These chapters are now operating in 43 states in the US.
