Chinchilla Fur Coats

Native to the Andes Mountains in South America, the chinchilla is considered as one of the commercially valuable fur bearers in the world. The history of this animal does not actually begin with them raised as pets in private homes and farms. The real origin actually goes back as early as 16th century when the chinchilla was used in the fur trading industry after the Spanish who conquered the Chinca Indians discovered little fur balls and found the chinchillas in high demand for their pelts. From then on, the fur traders and manufacturers have made chinchilla fur coats which became a must-have for the well-to-do families and royalties in Europe in the late 1700s.

According to several researches, the making of the first chinchilla fur coats took several days of completion. One reason for this is that chinchillas are not easy to trap. Aside from that, you need to kill a number of them before you can make a whole chinchilla fur coat. It was even noted that those who first crafted chinchilla fur coats have taken approximately 100 chins just to make one coat. And, because of the early killings of chinchillas, the population of chins in the wild by the end of the 19th century became scarce.

The chinchilla fur coats saw an enduring popularity since its early beginnings. Perhaps a valid reason for this growing popularity of chinchilla fur coats is that the chin fur is considered throughout the world as the softest. Numerous reports have in fact revealed that the chin fur is thirty times softer than the human hair. Also, the chinchilla fur has a higher density than the other land animals. It was found out that more than 20,000 hairs per square centimeter are found in chins. It is further worth noting that the chinchilla fur is so dense that the skin parasites cannot survive on one. And, if compared to the human hair which grows from one follicle, the chin fur is so dense that more than fifty hairs will grow from a single follicle. It is due to this density and softness that chinchilla furs are deemed great for fur coat.

Aside from the softness and density of the chin fur, many traders and manufacturers of fur coats have been considering chinchilla fur coats because of the fur colors. Naturally, the chin fur is gray, but there are other colors that may have developed out in captivity. Many of the chinchillas raised in farms were noted to have developed a number of different colors, such as white, beige, black velvet, violet, brown velvet, and mosaic. Much to your surprise, Panda colors have been seen in chinchillas. With this variety of wonderful colors, it's no wonder that many manufacturers of fur coats since the early days of fur trading have been crafting chinchilla fur coats.

The chinchilla fur coats are sold anywhere in the world nowadays. You can find them in a number of boutiques, and even on online stores. Most of the chinchilla fur coats come with a high price, but there are others that are offered at discount prices. So choose the item that best suits your needs.
