Well, this is supposed to be the main function of these under garments but these days, they have entirely different functions.

Bras and panties are undergarments that are supposed to protect and support the private parts of a woman. In terms of protection, bras and panties really do a good job. They can not really protect a woman from heavy injury since they are actually just scraps of fabric and may wire but they can protect from light to moderate risks of infections, diseases and other condition that may occur to a human being, specifically in the private areas.
The support given by bras and panties should not also be taken for granted. Bras are more on the support aspect compared to panties. They actually support women's breasts, especially the larger variety and help to prevent deformity and pain. Bras and panties are necessities in a woman's daily life. Bras help to support breasts and panties offer modesty for women. Panties also help during the menstrual period by supporting the sanitary pad necessary for a woman to stay clean.
There are bras and panties that also help to support a person's body especially those with problems in their posture. These orthopedic undergarments may have different designs from ordinary underwear and may be a lot heavier and sturdy than ordinary ones.
Other Functions
Other functions of bras and panties are to titillate partners of the woman and to help her feel sexy and better. This may seem very shallow but wearing beautiful and sexy bras and panties, especially new ones can actually make a woman feel much better and more in command. A garter belt can add to the allure of sexiness and is sometimes added to a woman's repertoire of sexy lingerie. Many women feel daring enough to wear bras and panties that may be seen or may imply that they are peeking from ordinary clothes.
