Men's Athletic Shoes

When we hear the phrase "men's athletic shoes", the first thing that pops up on our mind is basketball shoes. Actually, the term "men's athletic shoes" is quite broad. It covers shoes of almost all sport or any form of recreation. From basketball shoes to tennis shoes, soccer shoes to running shoes. From cheap sneakers to the latest, state of the art and expensive basketball shoes.

Everyday we see an advertisement on television about the newest and latest athletic shoes but before you dash to the men's athletic shoes section of your favorite sport store read the following tips below.

Sort out what kind of athletic shoes does your feet needs.

There are five basic shoe categories. Buy the shoe that suits your training needs and foot type.
* Motion Control Shoes - athletic shoes that belong within this category are the most rigid, control oriented and durable of all men's athletic shoes. Motion control shoes also limit overpronation ("pronation" is the normal motion of the foot; hence, overpronation is the excessive pronation of the foot).

* Stability Shoes - a type of men's athletic shoes that has good support, cushioning and durability. Ideal for individuals who are average in weight and do not have a severe pronation but need support.

* Cushioned Shoes - lives up to its name, cushioned shoes are ideal for individuals who are underpronate and do not need additional support.

* Lightweight Training Shoes - by the name alone, this category is the lightest of all men's athletic shoes, intended for fast paced training or racing. Ideal for individuals who are efficient runners or do not have motion control problems.

* Trail Shoes - has the best traction with added stability and durability. Good for off-road runs or inclement weathers. Soles are thicker and more durable.
Plan ahead.

Be sure that you have an extra pair of shoes. Avoid exercising or training with a pair of worn out shoes for these can cause injuries or may cause or contribute more injuries. If possible, buy two pair of athletic shoes at a time.

Always bring alternate shoes.

Have an alternate pair with you whenever you are exercising or on training. Also alternating the shoes you wear on training or exercise gives your feet a chance to take a break. Wear your work- out shoes only when you work out. Your work -out shoes will last longer if you don't wear them on other occasions.

Here are some tips on buying shoes:

* Shop late during the day. The human feet swell during daytime.
* Have your feet measured while standing.
* Always try both shoes with your socks on.
* Always choose the size of your larger foot.
* Buy comfortable shoes. If they hurt the first time you try them on don't buy them
* Break the shoes in by wearing them around the house before using them on training.
