PC Tune Up: Don't Lose Your Information!

If you want to keep hold of any information on your computer, you had need to find a way to back it up before anything bad should happen. Unfortunately, there is no way to guarantee that your personal computer will never crash. It's actually a matter of time before it does, especially if you don't practice regular maintenance! It is not hard or time consuming to back up your information and in the end, you will me more than happy that you did.

The most important tune up or upgrade you can perform is the back up of your data! If you use your computer for work, this rings even more true. The worst thing, besides maybe identity theft, would be to loose all of the data you have worked so hard to compile. For people that are new to the world of computing, it is incredibly important that you understand it is necessary to perform regular back ups of your data that you can not stand to part with, as one day you will not have a choice in the matter!

You have probably worked your fingers to the bone on all of the different data you have stored on your computer, right? Can you image the mess you would be in if you actually lost the information you thought was tucked away in a safe place?

How can you tell if your data is not being backed up? If you only have one hard drive, you are not backing up your material. You can also download some programs, but it is highly recommended you install another drive. If you have never installed your own hard drive, don't worry. It is a very simple and painless task.

The other hard drive won't have to cost an arm and a leg, either. The best thing for you to do is get down to your favorite discount computer supply store. You will want to buy two items for the process: a removable disk tray and the hard drive. That's it! The removable disk tray is more for convenience (they make it easy to slide the hard drive in and out of the computer and can even be locked incase you are worried about theft) and the hard drive will need to be one that is best fitting for your needs. If you are unsure what to get, ask an associate for help.

First of all, you will need to turn off your computer, in the safe mode. Then, it will be time to open the hard shell of the computer's tower. (Most are attached with an easy to remove knob. Remove the knob and slide the loose compartment off.) Install your new drive according to the instructions. (You may actually need a screwdriver for the installation process.) Once you have it installed, just put the hard shell back on and restart the computer. Now, you should be good to go!

Please be sure to transfer the data from your old hard drive to the new and not the other way around. If you do not, you will erase the material you are trying to save!

You can also install some programs to help back up your data. You can use Image software, which basically creates a kind of photocopy of your data. You cannot re boot your computer with this kind of software. You can only use it once the computer is up and running. The other program is a clone. This is just what it says. It is an exact copy of all of your important data. You can use this to boot up your personal computer, so this is the most popular type of software.

It is very easy to upgrade to a second hard drive so that you can back up your hard drive. It is a very simple task to undertake and is an easy way to tune up your personal computer. Backing up your data onto another hard drive will not only give you peace of mind, it will also help to increase memory space and the speed of the computer's performance. You can also install the above-mentioned programs, but the very best way to back up your data is to get yourself another hard drive.
