Free Oklahoma Criminal Records

Although the Internet has certainly made it possible for us to conveniently access information,
many public records researchers will agree that the amount of information that is publicly
available to us is no more than 20 percent of what is out there. There State Government statutes
that prevent the disclosure of certain types of public records. The State of Oklahoma for one does
not allow free Oklahoma criminal records to be released to any unauthorized, private individual.

By statute, free Oklahoma criminal records such as juvenile records are considered confidential
and are, therefore, unavailable to the public. Only criminal justice agents, judiciary or court
officials, and a few authorized individuals, such as those from the social services have access to
such documents, and even then, restrictions still apply.

The State of Oklahoma does not have an official central repository of free Oklahoma criminal
records. However, some regional databases do exist, such as city databases, county databases,
and databases kept by specific State Government offices. As a sort of replacement for its state
central repository of free Oklahoma criminal records, the state has established the ODIS, or the
Offender Data Information System. This is their way of providing information to public records
researchers who may find a need to look into the list of offenders of the state in their search for
free Oklahoma criminal records.

What is ODIS?

The ODIS is actually a management software tool for free Oklahoma criminal records. It keeps
computerized versions of free Oklahoma criminal records, organizing and maintaining them for
easy access and capture. The software design was based on DNA or Distributed interNetwork
Architecture, a programming model developed by Microsoft.

The ODIS is basically comprised of three tiers. One serves as the database for storage of free
Oklahoma criminal records. Another is a compiled application components used to handle the
business logic and the presentation layer which serves as the display screen once the user
accesses the free Oklahoma criminal records.

Alternatives to ODIS

Besides the ODIS, there are also several other sources of free Oklahoma criminal records that
you can check out. The downside to ODIS is that the information it contains are related to free
Oklahoma criminal records of convictions. For records of arrests, court filings, dispositions, and
such, you can check out city databases and county databases.

Inmate information is usually kept by the Department of Corrections and made available online
via their web portal. You can visit this site and use the search tool provided to look for free
Oklahoma criminal records. You may also visit the Clerk of Courts' Office which is responsible for
keeping all court documents, with or without convictions.
