The employee is very important to a business. And safety in the working environment plays an
integral role in keeping the business like a well-oiled machine. One way to prevent any slip-ups in

background checks are conducted.

Ohio criminal records are maintained by the State of Ohio in its central repository. Ohio criminal
records stored in the central repository are also forwarded to the Federal Bureau of Investigation
(FBI) to be stored in its criminal records database, called the NCIC. Aside from the database, the
FBI also maintains the Interstate Identification Index (III). This is an "index-pointer" system to
records of persons arrested for felonies or serious misdemeanors under State or Federal law.
The FBI's index pointer system in turn helps facilitate the interstate exchange of criminal history
records.
