Cleaning Your Diamond Jewelry the Right Way

Diamonds are treasured for long years as a precious gemstone. They are used as a symbol of wealth in the early days and jewelries with diamonds on it are considered as one of the priciest items you can ever own. Highly valued and priced, diamond jewelry is truly one of the greatest possessions that must be taken care of.

Caring for diamond jewelry is as easy as pie. All you need to do is to clean it in the best possible way to maintain its beauty and elegance. Yes, regular cleaning is very much important as although diamonds are tremendously hard and durable, there are still some things that can damage them. Hand lotions, hair styling products and other cosmetics can leave a film on your diamond that can keep it from sparkling the way it used to be. When these materials accumulate into your diamond jewelry and form thick layer of slime, cleaning the stone can be a bit tough. This is where the importance of regular cleaning is made highly evident.

So, what's the best way to clean diamond jewelry?

Well, to start, you need to have the right solution. What I am trying to say here is select jewelry cleaner that is intended or recommended for diamonds. Once you've found the right solution, prepare a container with a dip tray and a brush. Also prepare a paper towel or a clean and soft cloth. If everything is ready, dip your diamond jewelry in the solution. There is also an alternative to the diamond solution you have in hand, that is, a warm solution of mild liquid detergent and water. Many prefer ivory dishwashing liquid for their solution.

After soaking for about 10 to 20 minutes, take your diamond jewelry and have it brushed thoroughly, but carefully. Don't forget to use a soft brush to remove the dirt that accumulates into your stone. When I say soft, I am referring to those without bristles that are stiff enough to remove the metal setting which holds your stone in place. Make sure that all stones are secured tightly and that the prongs are not bent.

Put back the diamond jewelry in the solution and swish it around. Rinse it thoroughly in warm water. Dry it with the soft cloth. According to some experts, drying your diamond jewelry this way will prevent particles from being caught in the prongs while you're drying.

If you think that the diamond jewelry you have needs extra help, try to use a piece of wooden toothpick to push the dirt away from where it accumulates. Be sure, however, to do this carefully.

So that's it! Cleaning your diamond jewelry is indeed very easy. Time and a bit of effort are all that you need.
