Forming A High Fiber Diet Menu

For those who are health conscious, forming a high fiber diet menu is an important part of living a healthy lifestyle. There are free high fiber diets that can be found on the internet and in books, but the main thing is making sure the ingredients that are used in recipes that the person already has are whole grains or whole foods, meaning that they are not processed in any way which takes away their nutrients. There are many health benefits from eating from a high fiber diet menu such as weight loss, regular bowel movements, a decrease in cholesterol, and also prevention of colon cancer since the colon is kept cleaner.

Finding a Diet

The main consideration for individuals who want to start eating a high fiber diet menu is to find out what foods they already enjoy that are high fiber foods and incorporate more of those into every meal. For instance, almost everyone loves to eat different types of breads with their meals or as the meal itself, such as with sandwiches. All breads have some sort of fiber in them but may be processed and bleached so that the benefits of the grain and the fiber content are reduced. By purely changing the type of bread that is bought so that it is made from whole grains, the individual drastically increases his or her fiber intake. These breads can be found in grocery stores or whole food stores and can vary from sandwich bread, French bread, muffins and bagels. Many of these have a fiber count that is five grams or more per serving, which is a great start for those eating a high fiber diet menu that usually has a fiber intake of thirty grams or more per day depending on the age of the person and the sex.

In addition to the breads, there are also cereals, both hot and cold, that are made from whole grains and are great for a high fiber diet menu. One way to boost the fiber intake even more with any of the breads or cereals is to add fruit to it, such as berries. Adding strawberries, blueberries or raspberries to muffins, bagels or cereal are not only delicious, but can also more than double the fiber intake for that particular meal. Speaking of fruits, these are great supplemental snack foods that can be used between meals in a high fiber diet menu, such as oranges, apples with the skin, kiwis and mangos. In addition, dried fruits are less messy and are also a great source of fiber, such as prunes, dates, apricots and raisins.
