The PHR Certification is simply a certification program that is designed and developed for the human resource professionals; hence the name PHR stands for Professional in Human Resource. This certification is currently made available by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) which is but the leading independent and internationally recognized certifying body for the HR profession in the United States.

The PHR certification is desired by many people for a number of good reasons. Many HR professionals have considered it as the perfect way to test and measure their knowledge and skills regarding the human resource field. Others even see it as one of the most effective aid for career advancement.

PHR Requirements

Just like the rest of the HR certification programs, the PHR has its own set of requirements that applicants must meet in order to obtain the certificate. The primary requirement is the passing of the PHR examination which usually takes about four hours to complete. This exam is administered by HRCI themselves and offers twice each year. It is also offered during the national convention.

Another important requirement for the PHR certification is a four-year college degree plus two years of exempt level HR experience or four years of professional experience in the human resource field. And, if you happen to be a senior but you’ve earned a degree in college and enough experience in the field, you have the chance to take the certification examination one year preceding the graduation. You can also take the exam one year after the graduation and you may only receive the PHR certification after you have obtained enough amount of experience working the HR field.
