Film Drama School

What is the most competitive profession in the world? Would you believe it if we say it's acting? Unlike engineering and rocket science where demand is high and supply is low, acting is the complete opposite.

There are millions of aspiring actors and how many movies made in a year - Ten? Fifteen? That's a lot even. A typical actor will work professionally for eleven weeks in a given year.

So the competition is really there. It's palpable. It's real. And it's cutthroat. If you want to be an actor you have to be realistic. Acting might be your passion, but if you want to survive for more than a week in the "business," you might find yourself searching for a secondary temporary job sooner than you think.

As early as now, it's important to decide that this is really what you want. There are rewards, yes, both in monetary and other fulfilling terms. But you have to be successful at what you do to enjoy all that comes with fame and acting. And to be successful, you have to be competitive. Give yourself every advantage over other contenders like you.

So other people are going to film drama school? Then, why don't you? But then again, that decision involves a whole lot of thinking as well.

One thing is certain - if you are still under 18 and you are in mainstream education, don't quit school just yet to get into a film drama school.

The thing is most film drama schools do not accept those who are under 18. They want maturity in their applicants because they want to make sure that you can take the pressure and meet the demands of a film drama school. Thus, it is not uncommon to get rejected because they think you need to get more "life experience" before re-applying.

So don't take the rejection too personally. Take it as a lesson and learn from it. So you need life experience. Very well, forget about film drama school for now and go around the world, or get work experience, or attend college. And once you've had your fair share of life's harsh realities and wondrous rewards and still feel like acting is your passion, then re-apply.

Of course, going to a film drama school is not the be-all and end-all of everything. It's not a guarantee of success in the acting profession. In fact, there are many good actors out there working in movies left and right even though they have had no formal training in a film drama school. There are also great actors who attended prestigious drama schools and did their schools proud. So nothing is really certain and there is no sure-fire ticket to become a successful actor. But if you want a good boost in the right path, then it's film drama school for you.
