Film School Ranking

The entertainment scene is indeed an inspiring industry because, let's face it, we all watch movies and appreciate at least once in our lives graphics and animation. For those bursting with talents for the arts, going into a film school is the best answer to getting the most coveted positions in entertainment. However, students might be faced with a dilemma on which school could give a more vivid spot at the dream factory.

Resorting to film school rankings seems quite logical and helps provide hints on which schools are on top of the totem pole in terms of quality of training, type of program offered, facilities, faculty, and location. A film school's location is crucial. Most reputable film schools have locations in bustling cosmopolitans in the world like London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, and Vancouver. Movie directors and producers look for talents in areas conducive for the entertainment business to reach the peaks of its success. These locations have a factor in film school rankings.

The latest film school ranking released late 2006 showed the New York University and the University of Southern California, both sitting at the top spot. This film school ranking is based on graduate programs. Nonetheless, the film schools included in the ranking also provide exemplary, if not the top, undergraduate trainings in the U.S.

The NYU's film school is known as the Tisch School of the Arts established in 1965, now has three main institutes namely: the Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television, the Institute of Performing Arts, and the Skirball Center for New Media. The University of Southern California School of Cinema-Television was founded in 1929 is the first university to offer a Bachelors degree in the Arts. Tying third in the film school ranking is University of California at Los Angeles followed by the American Film Institute at fourth, and the California Institute of the Arts at fifth.

Ranking on the sixth spot is the Columbia University Film School in New York, tying at the seventh place is the School of the Art institute of Chicago and University of Texas at Austin. Three schools occupying the ninth place are Florida State University, Northwestern University at Illinois, and the Temple University.

The film school ranking gave emphasis on the number of graduates the film school has each year, the faculty-student ratio, the size of the class, the acceptance percentage, among others, which when translated to common terms means the quality of training each student can grasp, as provided by the institution. Noticeably, the top five schools in the film school ranking are in strategic locations as far as the entertainment industry is concerned. New York has one of the most robust entertainment culture while California is, well, the entertainment capital of the world.
