NYU Film School

The New York University or NYU is comprised of many colleges and schools operating within the NYU community. The NYU film school is known as Tisch School of the Arts, established in 1965 as a School of the Arts. A few years after its founding, it created other departments of theater design, lighting, dance, and cinema studies offered in a few short years. Today, the NYU film school trains 3,200 in the field of the arts in different departments and 14 programs.

The Tisch School of the Arts as the NYU film school itself consists of three major institutes: the Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television, the Institute of Performing Arts, and the Skirball Center for New Media, which offers BFA, MA, MFA, MPS and PhD degrees. Recently, the NYU film school completed the renovation of the facilities for its film production and is investing a huge sum of money worth $75 million for its capital campaign.

The NYU film school takes pride for offering a wide grasp in the field of arts and film. Both are clearly delineated through specialized courses. The Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television is the school for students who aspire to build a career in filmmaking and the broadcast media. It constitutes five different programs and departments.

The Department of Film and Television provides students with entry-level and professional training involving studies in the liberal arts for the undergraduate, which serve as stepping stone for a BFA degree. The Graduate Division offers a three-year intensive program for an MFA degree covering production, pre-production, post-production, directing, screenwriting, aesthetics, and entertainment business.

The NYU film school through the Department of Photography and Imaging at Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television offers an undergraduate program focused photo analysis, while studying its history as well as the liberal arts. The Rita and Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing provides professional level training for students interested in theater and film writing.

Another program offered at the NYU film school through the Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television is the Interactive Telecommunications Program is a two-year program, giving hands-on training to students in studying and designing innovative communication media aspects and applications. The program also offers a Master's Degree.

The Institute of Performing Arts provides world-class training through its Graduate Acting Program. It is recognized in the world as a premier program for acting, both for the quality of training and faculty and the remarkable contributions of its alumni. In 2006, five personalities including one faculty member and four alumni made it to the Oscars garnering major awards like Best Director and Best Actor.
