UCLA Film School

University of California in Los Angeles or UCLA is one of the premier universities in the U.S., whose film school is the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television (TFT). The UCLA film school stands as the only university in the U.S. that integrates three disciplines in visual and performing arts: film, theater, television, and digital media all in one professional school.

The UCLA film school normally attracts industry leaders to become faculty members, mentors, and advisors. A big factor for such assemblage is the UCLA film school's location in the entertainment capital of the world - Los Angeles. Its successful alumni have won several awards from major award-giving bodies like the Oscars, Tony's, and Emmy's, every year.

The undergraduate department of the Theater and Film/Television programs of the UCLA film school ranks first out of a total 500 programs in the whole of the United States, as reported by the Princeton Review/Gourman Report. The graduate programs for theater and film/television are consistently pegged at the top 3 ranks, nationally.

Admission in the UCLA film school is like passing through a needle's eye and applicants will be facing tough competition. Every year, the UCLA film school admits only 310 students but applicants in 2003 reached to 3,688, which goes to show that only the finest students attend the school.

Successful applicants will be given superb training and high quality of education through its clearly defined courses and small classes. The UCLA film school has 140 faculty members coming from national and international backgrounds teaching a small student body of only 410 undergraduates and 390 graduates, putting the student - teacher ratio to 6:1.

One of the largest, if not the largest, visual and performing arts archive in the world is the UCLA Film and Television archive in which students will be able to view and observe past university-based film projects. However, the UCLA film school aims its students to be future industry leaders and innovators in the respective fields they venture into.

The UCLA film school consists of two departments: the Department of Theater and the Department of Film, Television and Digital Media. The theater programs provide in-depth knowledge to students on the 2,500-year history and literature of theater, and expose them to theater works that challenges them intellectually and artistically - the way theater should be. The Department of Theater and Television offers study programs that covers theory and history, and the artistic and technical aspects of a moving image.
Being a state-subsidized institution, the school admits students not because of their financial status but the talents and intellect they possess, which in turn is enhanced by the school's top-tier programs and professional level training.
