Home Education: Then And Now

Home Education: Then And Now

Home education started to gain its popularity way back the sixties. Since then, the whole concept continues to grow and in fact, become a legitimate and accepted schooling method. Home education has shown to be highly effective that more than 1,000 college schools and universities admit enrollment applications from homeschooled children.

In the early times, home education had its fair share of critic and negative publicity due to the fact that there were parents then who regarded to homeschool their children, and kept their children away from public schools, but did not actually teach any lessons at all. You are asking why? Those parents seemed to see no point at all with the concept of home education.

The unfortunate children emerged from their homes feeling entrapped and uneducated. They found it impossible to interact and knowledge about life and academics were extremely low. Those poor children were deprived and robbed off their rights to be educated, to learn and to acquire the essence of their being. It was those times that home education was viewed to not work and could not possibly be taken as an educational approach.

Home education did not work out so well some time ago because of the opposing arguments about the matter. People then had poor judgment believing only on certified school teachers to be better equipped to educating children. They also pointed out that the school equipments especially that of laboratory equipments were far better than in areas like home.

However, today, these arguments are invalid anymore. Parents are far from being equipped to teach their children. In fact, parents are highly capable of imparting education and indeed, efficacious. Home education is supported by many, owing to the fact of newly produced and innovated tools and curriculum being made possible for any home schooling parents and children to avail. Wide variations of curriculum are specifically available to cater every child’s needs.

Another misconception about home education is the issue of socialization. A home-educated child does not at all suffer from any social ineptness. Like the conventional student, a homeschool student experiences the same social privileges of other children. In truth, home education provides more time to bond and socialize with others especially now that home schooling organizations are established.

Further more, homed-educated children have more activities to partake in for them to be socially active and learning at the same time. Sports and other group games are available for homeschooled students. Such activities, apart from the educational tours, provide a wonderful chance to keep both mind and body healthy, as well as to enjoy and develop their sense of sportsmanship, while allowing parents to meet up with other home educating parents, wherein the adults can share and openly discuss their home teaching techniques and experiences.

Home education, is indeed rewarding. It does require a tremendous amount of hard work and patience, but eventually, everything is well compensated in the end.
