Muslim Home Education: A Learning Opportunity For Parents

Muslim Home Education: A Learning Opportunity For Parents

In the past decades, there has been an increasing trend in home school. As the increasing number of people have heard about homeschool and the exclusive learning approach it has, a lot also got curious to study. The Muslim community was among the vast interested learners about home schooling.

The Muslim home education has now been an option available not just for children yet also for parents. This right is actually honored in the English Law. The responsibilities and rights of parents to Muslim home education are summarized in Education Act of 1996. It states the following:

Parents of each child have the legal right to obtain competent full-time schooling that is suitable to their aptitude, ability, age, and particular education needs. Secondly, the English Law points out that children must be educated in line with their parent’s wishes. The Muslim home education has proved to provide an efficient training and instruction to the child.

Parents are now given not just the privilege, yet the right to acquire Muslim home education so that in the later years, they will be able to impart their learning to their children. This legal right to learning is according to the personal values and beliefs of the parents. This certainly means that parents have the right to formulate decisions for their children to be at home, be educated or seek other alternative schooling forms so to receive an appropriate Islamic education.

Obviously, parents who undergo Muslim home education must also ensure literacy among their children, in return to acquiring this legal right. Apart from the Islamic teachings, children must also be taught about other essential subjects like science geography and history although parents are always free to select the effective and most appropriate ways of educating their own kids.

Additionally, parents who are having the Muslim home education may opt for any teaching method, ranging from unschooling or autonomous schooling to tracking the set national curriculum when teaching at home. However, it should also be stated that it is not necessary for them to go after the curriculum because it simply exists as school guide.

There are no legal necessities or requirements for Muslim home educating parents to use it except if one plan to. Moreover, there is also no obligation to teach the child using the English language if parents prefer them to pursue learning another language.

The question exists about Muslim home education of parents and imparting the teachings to their children. Will the children be deprived on socialization? Absolutely no. According to studies, children who are taught by their home-schooled parents even have greater maturity and social skills than those who enter the school. In part, this is because schools often use standardization, thus they are inflexible.

With children taught by their Muslim home-educated parents, the self-discipline and self-directed teachings are imparted well and good.
