Why Learn Hindi?

Like any other major language in the world, to learn Hindi is a requirement most people must not pass up. In the numbers department, Hindi is the third most spoken language in the world. It is the official language of India, the second largest populated country in the world and an emerging economic tiger.

Indian Culture

For a country whose cultural heritage dates back to several thousands of years back, India and its culture is worth immersing into again and again.

Every year, millions of tourists from all over the world visit India. The ability to speak and understand Hindi expands the opportunity to enjoy Indian culture and its people.

And since the world is now starting to appreciate Hindi films, learning the language is not such a bad idea. It will also be a good introduction to be acquainted with Hindi literature and songs and music.

There is also a trend now with Non-resident Indians who live abroad. They all want their children to understand India, its culture and its people and the first step would be to study Hindi language.

Business opportunities

In the last 8 years, the demand to speak and write Hindi grew around 50%. These demands come from people who want to engage in business in the country, some in the translation business, and some for jobs in India and abroad with Indian connections.

Today, spurred by India’s impressive growth as an emerging economic power, investors are taking a second look at the country and come in droves themselves. Corporations with plans of expanding their operations and sales in the South Asian region are recruiting people who speak Hindi.

These people are not only knowledgeable with the language but with the Indian culture as well to be effective marketers of their products to the Hindi-speaking markets.

Integral to the success in the global perspective include facility of the language in the both the market and the manufacturing region. India’s population and burgeoning economy is a large enough market business corporations would not miss out.

The ability to communicate in the local language discussing the local market is an immediate requirement. This does not only foster friendship and trust, it is also important in facilitating long-term relationship-building.

International businessmen with knowledge of the Hindi language have a head start among their competitors in doing business in India. They have a better understanding of the culture gleaned from learning the language itself.

Writing and other proficiencies

In short, a high level of linguistic proficiency can mean the difference between business success and failure. Today, there is also a demand for highly-specialized training in business writing in the target language (Hindi), contract negotiations, and skills in presentation delivery and conducting interviews.

For a foreign corporation, there is a definite edge in having linguistically proficient personnel who can build and maintain relationships with their local counterparts.

As they become more confident in the Hindi language, so do their abilities to identify opportunities for their mother companies regarding expansion and other business prospects. But in all these, the first step is, of course, to learn Hindi.
