Gaining Speed Through Reading
How to Speed Read
Reading is a sure way to gain speed. To speed read does not mean you will need someone to zap a magical wan to make you read fast. Speed-readers often learn techniques that help them focus on reading. Courses are available to those who feel they cannot learn to speed-read on their own, however, if you set your mind to speed-read, you can do it. At what time you start reading allow your eyes to roam the pages with you, as quickly as you can. The key then is the eyes moving in motion with your reading habits.
The first thing you want to do when starting to read is to sit with your back in alignment. In other words, proper posture is the start to reading sufficiently. You can hold the book in position with your hand, while beginning to read. Some people do well while using their other hand to pace the pages as they read. For instance, you can use your index finger to scan the sentences as you read.
Now, some people say that you will need an ability to read well before you can learn to speed-read. The fact is reading is practice, practice builds comprehension and vocabulary, thus reading is the start to speed-reading. Thus, professors has taught children successfully throughout the years, teaching them that reading is the way to build vocabulary and comprehension skills.
A reader's rules in the game of speed-reading are to briefly preview and review the pages before start reading. Having an idea of what you are about to read can help you to move through the pages swiftly.
Some writer's recommend that you use a card while scanning the pages. In other words, you place the card over the first sentence read fast, and move the card downward as you continue reading. I must question this notion, however, all of us are different, thus take the advice and use it at your own discretion. If once, you start and see problems with the notion, thus try another solution that works best for you.
Another tactic mentioned to those wishing to speed-read, is to sweep the fingers over the pages. You can use four fingers, joining them together and scan the pages as you move along. Again, this notion interrupts my idea of speed-readers, thus, I feel the index finger will work best, but again, try the sweeping tactic at your own discretion.
Some say the “Hop” is great for reading fast. The notion interrupts the logic of motor readers, which use movement to read. While motor readers read fast, other types of readers read quicker. When you use movement while reading, it only interrupts the flow. Again, use this tactic at your own discretion. Yet, keep in mind; you may endure soreness from constant movement once you finish reading.
Few writers' state that zig zagging through the pages with two fingers while you read is the way to reading fast. Contrary to the notion, this is only teaching the reader to use motor skills to read. Motor readers, auditory readers, and sight-readers, overall is the basic types of readers. While auditory readers break down to vocalize readers, vibrating, whispering, or other types of readers, the overall types is the ladder. The faster readers is the sight-readers, since these readers do not use sound, noise, or movement when reading.
Sight-readers use visual realization skills, as well as silent reading to read fast. For instance, a sight-reader will visualize a group of words, putting his or her self in the scene, while avoiding reliance on words. In other words, sight-readers do not dwell on a single word, or group of words while reading.
