Faculty members in the teacher prep departments and in the arts and sciences have a special obligation to offer programs for teachers that will give them the academic and general skills they require to teach effectively. Additionally, they must acknowledge their obligation to help foster the attitudes needed effectively to educate all pupils.

The people who educate teachers and administrative officials must get involved in the schools. They should spend time working with all people involved in the education process to had better understand the needs of the modern classroom. They should interact with students, teachers and the administrative officials so they can stay current on issues as well as broaden their practical experience in the schools and with the students. This leads to a much-needed narrowing of the gap between theory and practice as well as providing an all-important educational experience for teachers and administrators alike; community-based learning in practice!

Who else is responsible for the training of educators and educational administrators, and why is the variety of collaborations so beneficial to students?

Institutions of higher education, however, readily acknowledge that they are not the sole trainers of the future generations of teachers and administrators; rather, this is also done in schools themselves and by the actual practitioners through a variety of intensive, well-planned, highly supervised field-based learning experiences. In short, it is done through a form of Subliminal Learning itself. The expertise gained by effective teachers and effective principals out in the field is both recognized and greatly appreciated. Partnerships both formal and informal exist between educators across the grades in a wide variety of schools.

A variety of teacher educators teaches classes in local schools as well as in institutions of higher learning. Others may well team up with local teachers; either way, this exchange of ideas between schools and places of higher education provides welcome and needed opportunities for teachers, professors, administrators and students all to learn in a collaborative, team-based setting that is well disposed to fostering similar education practices in classrooms later on down the line.

How can teacher and administrator educators be more effective in their positions and benefit the students that those educators-in-training will teach?

Effective teacher/administrator educators stay current in curricular and school organization issues. Through their involvement in research and development, they are able to stay abreast of all current methodologies that have been repeatedly proven to accelerate the learning of all students.

Not only do they teach from a valuable philosophical position that encourages the acceleration of all students, but they are also able to ensure that their students know and understand the academic content and can demonstrate a working knowledge of practices that accelerate learning and their underlying assumptions. In order to do this, teacher educators must set up their own classroom environments to accelerate the learning of their students; that is, they practice what they preach.
