Licensed Vocational Nursing Schools In The US

Vocational nursing can be a choice for individuals wanting to pursue a career in health and medicine. Individuals who attain a diploma or certification in licensed vocational nursing are called licensed vocational nurses or licensed practical nurses.

Licensed vocation nurses work alongside with registered nurses and physicians. They take care of the convalescent and sick patients. Taking care of hospital or clinic patients' health and vital signs is one of the responsibilities of a licensed nurse. They can also do other tasks such as collecting examination samples, feeding of patients, dressing application and administering injections and enemas to patients. They may also perform certain laboratory testing.

Licensed vocational nurses have undergone limited training and shorter period of education than registered nurses. However, they are under the supervision of physicians and registered nurses.

In the US, licensed vocational nurses must pass state-approved nursing programs offered by licensed vocational nursing schools. They can receive the licensure upon passing NCLEX-PN, a licensing exam for vocational nurses.

NCLEX is the abbreviation of National Council Licensure Examination. Licensed vocational nurses take NCLEX-PN while registered nurses, NCLEX-RN.

The nursing programs can be offered by different licensed vocational nursing schools. They range from universities, community colleges and vocational institutions.

Licensed vocational nursing schools in the United States include University of Phoenix, Kaplan University, Maric College, TESST College of Technology, Hamilton College, Western Career College, Dover Business College, Olympia Career Training Institute, Bohecker College and North-West College.

Hamilton is one of the liberal arts colleges in the United States that offer Licensed Vocational Nurse Training Degrees. University of Phoenix and Kaplan University are for-profit institutions that also offer the vocational training degree.
