Solving Video IPod Sync Problems

Solving Video iPod Sync Problems

Settings Adjusted
If your image and sound are not working in harmony on your video iPod, you may need to take a look at your settings and make some adjustments. First thing to do is to open your video iPod file in QuickTime. You will need to choose the 'Show Movie Info' option and make a note of the umber for 'frames per second'.

Now, you want to go toward the end of the video and press play. What you are looking for is the amount of time that the audio is out of sync with the video. If the variation is slight, the timeframe for the sync is probably less than one second. Go to the menu and select 'Edit-Select All' and your entire timeline will be highlighted. Of the two options shown for your timeline, choose the one at the end. Make sure you select the entire line until it becomes completely black. In order to re-sync the audio to the video, you will have to lose a bit of your movie.

Using the left arrow key, tap it so that the counter goes down to the previous time frame. As you do this, keep track of how many taps it takes until the counter on the left goes down to the previous second, in other words, each tap of the left arrow key rewinds one frame of video. If it took as many taps to move the counter down as your 'frames per second' number, this means that you have rewound a full second of video. Tap the counter until you have reached your estimated time - there is no need to worry about being precise; the most important thing is to make a note of the number of taps you make.

Return to the menu and this time, select 'Edit- Copy'. Second, select 'Edit-Select All' and finally, select 'Edit-Add to Selection and Scale'. Once you have done this, select 'Window-Show Movie Properties'. Here you should see two video tracks and two sound tracks. The first (video track 1 and sound track 1), are the original tracks. The second tracks are your edited tracks. Now you will use the check boxes here to find out how close you are to getting the audio and video in sync.

All four tracks should be selected when you start. Move the play head to a point within in the movie and press play. Now you can mix and match the tracks labeled '1' with tracks labeled '2'. Make sure you select only one Video Track and one Sound Track at a time until you get the result you want. Once you are happy with the results, you have to delete the unselected tracks. Go to the menu and select 'File-Save-Self Contained Movie'.
Congratulations! You have synched your new QuickTime movie's audio to the video and it is ready for your video iPod. Now you can sit back and relax while viewing your favorite video on your iPod. You can also download the movies to computer, DVD, and so forth. This provides you the ability to watch your favorites at leisure in the comforts of your own home, or office if you prefer.

If you are not happy with the results, simply repeat the steps above and increase your counter taps, usually when this is the case, adding five more frames than the first time will do the trick. You may want to refer to your manual to reach the best results. Often time's manuals provide you step-by-step instructions to guide you through a variety of processes.
