Belly Dance Moves

Belly Dancing is a sensual expression of the body through defined movements known as belly dance moves. Although what the public commonly see are swaying hips or jiggling abdomen, there is more to belly dancing than such movements. Besides, not all who can sway their hips and wear veils can be classified as belly dancers. Belly Dance is in itself a performing art which when gracefully executed can appreciated and respected even by professional dancers. It takes patience, perseverance and discipline to learn all the fundamental belly dance moves.

Belly dance is similar to other dance techniques that relies on core movements . Basic movements are isolated movements using the arms, hips, and abdomen which can be said as routines that definitely strengthen the body's core section. Belly Dance is composed of four basic moves fundamental and necessary for any type of belly dancing. As a learner slowly progress to more advanced techniques, choreography can be developed to create a presentation.

The Four Basic Moves are Staccato Hip Moves, rolling hip moves, rib cage circles and arm and shoulder routines. The Basic Stance is basically standing with the body weight evenly distributed to achieve good balance. This is basic yet requires discipline since this move makes the dancer graceful when poise and balance is maintained. Usually, toes are pointed and bent knees are practiced while the body shifts into different positions. Most hip movements like hip twist hip bumps are learned in this basic move. The Basic Rolling Hip Moves involves hip movements that rotate to form horizontal 8 through various vertical and horizontal movements. This movement also includes basic hip circle and vertical hip circle. The rib cage circles is quite advanced movement begins only from the waist down. The rib cage is isolated to move on its own by maintaining straight legs which is rather difficult. This basic step includes horizontal rib cage circles, diagonal rib cage circle, vertical rib cage circle with undulation. The arm, shoulder and head moves are also used to complement whole body movement. The head is important in belly dancing since it makes projections through facial expressions conveying emotions or attitude. Moreover, the head moves synchronized with the body .Arms are also important since the " snake arms" are expressive ways of movement. Also, most of the time the arms form a semi-circle near the head.

Belly dance moves are quiet complex but once you have found a good class with a patient instructor, you'll be surprised that you're already readying yourself for a public performance.
