Black And Successfully Hilarious – Famous Black Comedians

They were able to touch any American heart with their comic. We were all entertained with their wits and acts. Now, it's time to pay tribute to these famous black comedians and offer them what they simply want from us – laughter.

Anybody who knew Richard Pryor would say he's the greatest and one of the most famous black comedians of all time. Indeed a legend in the history of comedy. Pryor was able to rise up from poverty and transform his traumatic childhood into an inspiration that in turn, inspired many who wanted to follow his footsteps. Despite being abandoned by his prostitute mother and growing up in a brothel, Pryor managed to get out of his milieu and conquer Hollywood.

A late 20th century famous black comedian whose persona is an embodiment of genuine comical craft – Eddie Murphy never fails to attract a full-house attendance. Aspiring to be another Pryor, Murphy may be surging up higher with plenty of time in his career and evolving into a wholesome comic hero. Murphy is a legend in the making.

Who could ever forget the long-standing Cosby Show, with a truly natural comic like Bill Cosby? He is another legend who's loved by everyone at any age. From his stand-up comedy acts to films like Uptown Saturday Night and top rated television series, his longevity is a manifestation of a hero.

Red Foxx managed to go his own way in comedy, having such an upfront personality. Foxx was never afraid to speak his mind and wowed audiences with his down-to-earth visage. This comedian from St. Louis, Missouri was best known for his television series Sanford and Son. He passed away on October 11, 1991 at age 69.

Martin Lawrence may not be one of a kind but this man is definitely among his class of famous black comedians. Lawrence has, perhaps, conquered what it takes to be another comical hero –stand-up comedy to television series and the big screen. He co-wrote and directed one of his movies titled A Thin Line Between Love and Hate. He also starred with Will Smith in the sequel Bad Boys (1995) and Bad Boys II (2003).

This comic from Brooklyn started his career in New York nightclubs doing stand-up comedy in the late 1980's. Rock got his first break in the television comedy show Saturday Night Live and In Living Color.
