Coming from the other side of the world, old british comedians shatter through continental boundaries and dare to speak a universal language – laughter.

Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin's signature character was "the Tramp" symbolizing a vagrant wearing oversized pants, a tight coat, and shoes. "The Tramp" was seemingly a representation of his harsh childhood. Chaplin had to earn for a living because his unstable mother who was in and out of the mental hospital could no longer support them.

Chaplin was the most popular actor in the early days of Hollywood and an all-around artist, who acted, produced, directed, scripted, and edited his own films. He also found his studio United Artists. Chaplin likewise received an honorary Oscar in 1972. He moved to Vevey, Switzerland where he stayed until his death after his permit to stay in the US was revoked for being suspected a communist.

In the list of old british comedians (although he's still relatively old) is Mr. Bean Rowan Atkinson. The popularity of Mr. Bean bridged generations delighting children and grow-ups alike. In spite of his naive persona, Rowan's got lots of brains. He went to university in Oxford in 1975 where he met screenwriter Richard Curtis.

Rowan wrote comedy revues and performed together with Curtis at the Oxford Playhouse and eventually geared towards Edinburgh Fringe. Rowan's talent easily gained recognition, after a revue performed at the Hampstead Theater in 1978 gained critical acclaims, as he was offered the main roles of British television series. However, he instead joined BBC's "Not The Nine O'Clock News" team. Rowan today continues to do skits on television and in film.

Arthur Askey is one of the old british comedians who reached the zenith of his career during the prewar era. He was born in Liverpool, England on June 6, 1900 and died in London on November 16, 1982. Askey's career began on the radio when he was amongst the old british comedians who performed in the first british radio comedy show, "Band Wagon". Films followed on with Band Wagon (movie) in 1939 and Back-Room Boy (1942). There was a 10-year vacuum in his career after getting disappointed with the movie Bees in Paradise (1944) but returned to films in 1955 with The Love Match.

Any good comedian leaves a trademark of himself and Roy "Chubby" Brown's are adult comedy, foul-mouth, and extreme costumes. Chubby can be rarely seen without a pilot's hood and flight goggles, and wears along colorful jackets in his stand-up acts. Chubby appeared in a 1970's show Opportunity Knocks.
