Dexter Character Lila

Dexter had the misfortune of meeting Lila Tournay during one of his anonymous addiction meetings. From the first glance, you are weary of Lila as she seems odd. However, Lila is able to see through Dexter's lies during his AA confessions and she knows that he is just going through the motions. He's saying what everyone wants to hear while he hides his true self.

Against his better judgment, Dexter chooses Lila as his AA sponsor, even though she has never sponsored previous addicts and has no experience herself. In a short amount of time he realizes that she is a little unstable and likes to steal in her spare time.

Dexter is unaware in the beginning that Rita is intimidated by his relationship with Lila. She sees in Lila what she does not see in herself. To Rita, Lila is a beautiful and attractive woman who is sure of herself. She is free, outgoing and she understands Dexter in ways that Rita cannot.

Lila begins to push Dexter to confront his past. She wanted him to stand face to face with the man who murdered his mother in front of her two sons. Using a series of vague explanations Dexter is able to be free when he's with Lila. Their relationship is spontaneous, open and passionate and he does not have to hold himself back the way he does with Rita.

The relationship with Rita begins to take a dark turn for Dexter when he cheats on her with Lila. During his emotional breakdown Lila is everywhere and eventually Dexter realizes that she is trying to keep him to herself. Rita found out about the relationship through a voicemail that Lila had left on his machine. It could have been an honest mistake, but we will never know as Lila was unconcerned and soon became obsessed with Dexter.

As he began to drift from her and move back to Rita, Lila began her series of desperate measures. The first included the burning of her home using her work tools. She lived with Dexter in his apartment until Dexter smoothly maneuvered her back to her home. He knew that she had set the fire and he wanted out of their relationship in all ways. Lila also contacted the man who killed his mother decades before so that he could make an attempt on Dexter's life. She felt that they are closer during a crisis.

Lila believed that Dexter belongs with her and not Rita. Dexter was her soul mate, but he did not feel the same way. She used his co-worker and friend Angel Batista as a way to get Dexter back in her life but he ignored her as much as possible. While Dexter continued to ignore her, Lila stalked Rita, invaded her home and eventually filed false charges of rape against Angel. She would do anything to get Dexter back into her life, no matter how much he hated her.

When Dexter threatened that he would soon be out of her reach as he planned to turn himself in as the Bay Harbor Butcher, Lila stole his GPS and found out that Sgt. James Doakes was his captive. Instead of freeing Doakes, Lila killed him by blowing up the cabin. She had taken the life of an innocent man, so Dexter had to take hers.

After realizing that Dexter would never be with her out of his own free will, Lila attempted to kill him and Rita's two children in a fire. Dexter escaped and hunted Lila. She became his last victim in season two of Showtime's Dexter.
