Dexter's Victims

At the heart of Showtime's Dexter is the fact that Dexter Morgan doubles as someone who works for the police and a serial killer off the clock. Dexter may consider himself a monster, but he also feels that he is better than the people he kills because he will not take an innocent life be it man, woman or child.

Dexter has had many victims but the pilot episode shows that his trophy case held many slides. That means that there are countless victims we will never meet. The victims we do get to know are wide and varied and Dexter is sure of there guilt as many confess with there last breath.

In his late teens we meet Dexter's first victim. After his adopted father Harry became ill due to heart problems, he was left in the hospital to recuperate but his health continued to decline. Being a decorated police officer, Harry was aware that his nurse doubled as an "Angel of Mercy". A serial killer who likes to believe that they are helping sick patients by ending their lives with a mixture of drug overdoses. With the permission of Harry, Dexter used his code and got rid of Nurse Mary.

Mike Donovan was a man who lived a lie similar to Dexter. He had a family, went to church as a Choice Master and everyone who knew him, thought that he was a great man. He became a victim of Dexter because he was a serial killer of children.

The police suspected that Jamie Jaworski was a murderer but the case was thrown out before trial, due to a "faulty search warrant". Dexter picked up the trail and through websites and the victim's identifiable tattoo, Jaworski admitted that he was the killer and that he was not sorry. Neither was Dexter.

The case of Matt Chambers took a deeper look at holes in the Justice Department. Chambers was accused of drunk driving and killing 18 year old Alexander Pryce. With crocodile tears and claims of AA recovery, he was found innocent. However, Dexter investigated what the police and prosecutors had not; he searched countrywide instead of just in State.

Before losing his life to Dexter, Matt Chambers confessed and professed to be sorry about his crime. Dexter refused to believe him or accept his apologies because Chambers repeated the same bad behavior frequently. Matt Chambers drove drunk and when he killed someone, usually an innocent child, he used apologies and pledges of alcohol recovery to get a light sentence. Once he was free, Chambers moved to another state with a new name and started all over again.

Jorge and Valerie Castillo were a husband and wife team who did not draw many sympathies after they were killed by Dexter. They promised to help Cuban immigrants sneak into America, but once they reached the shores, the Castillo family would hold them captive until family and friends came up with a surprise delivery fee.

Since most of the immigrants and family were poor, they could not afford to pay, and Jorge Castillo would drown and throw the victims overboard. When they were washed ashore, the Police and Coast Guard would assume that they died trying to float into America. Dexter had only meant to kill Jorge but on short notice he discovered that the wife was also involved and she had to meet a similar fate with her husband.

Unlike Jorge, Valerie was not dismembered since Dexter had not brought enough supplies to deal with two victims. As part of his game with Dexter, older brother and fellow serial killer Rudy Cooper rescued the corpse of Valerie and left her for the police to find. This brought a lot of stress to Dexter as he wondered what the Ice Truck Killer was up to. The police never found Jorge and assumed that he killed his wife and fled the country.

The most difficult victim for Dexter was the death of his only living blood relative, older brother Rudy Cooper AKA Brian Moser AKA the Ice Truck Killer. Dexter finally found someone who understood him and his urge to kill. Dexter could never join his brother however, as Rudy killed innocent people. The code of Harry would not let claim his brother.

They were further separated as Rudy wanted Debrah to die and Dexter wanted to protect his adopted sister. In the end, Dexter killed his brother using the same techniques that the Ice Truck Killer used on his victims.
