Sirius Satellite Radio Canada

A provider for all-digital satellite radio, Sirius Satellite Radio Canada presently broadcasts more than a hundred channels of satellite radio news, talk, audio entertainment, and music from all across the globe in Canada. They launched their first broadcast on December 1, 2005 after the CRTC approved their license for satellite radio broadcasting on June 16, 2005; their corporate headquarters is located in Markham, Ontario Canada.

Sirius Satellite Radio Canada produces ten exceptional Canadian channels mixed with the over ninety US channels coming from Sirius Radio US service that creates a unique combination of programming. Sirius uses an encoding technology called PAC that digitizes its signal to an almost CD quality, which means that it still gets a good quality of transmission coming from its original source.

Three high-powered, Loral SS/L-1300 Sirius commercial satellites delivers programming at a standard elevation angle approximately sixty-degrees contrasting that of usual geostationary ’45-degree’ satellites, allowing it to rather have a bigger coverage area, and clearer sight with fewer obstructions such as trees or buildings. The inclined orbit of the satellites also mean that places like Mexico and Canada, are better covered via its satellite footprints; it also has a fourth satellite on ground for back-up in case the three satellites fail.

To receive Sirius Satellite Radio Canada programming, a Sirius radio antenna, receiver, and subscription of CAD$14.99 per month is needed. Sirius Canada provides an extensive equipment lineup to go with its diverse program offerings. They fall into four wide categories which include Plug & Play units, vehicle units, home units, and portable units.

The Plug & Play units are portable devices that interface with Sirius Home or Car kits, allowing the radio to be used in ones vehicles, as well as bring it to the office or home. The portable units, although not yet available in Canada, are a 100% portable receivers that can be carried anywhere like the “Walkman” style. The home units are especially designed to give the highest quality of sound to homes. The vehicle head units are ready-units obtainable from JVC, Eclipse, Alpine, Pioneer, and Kenwood, which comes in various features and configurations.
