Satellite TV Receiver: Why Bother?

Not everybody needs a satellite TV receiver, especially if they can get a great signal through cable. But some places are too remote to have cable lines, and so getting a satellite TV receiver is the only way to get television. Some people also prefer to get digital cable as they may be only able to get certain channels that way. In that case, they need a digital satellite TV receiver.

Advantages

Enthusiasts for a satellite TV receiver state that you can’t get a better picture than with satellite TV. They claim that there is less of a chance as static, fuzziness or the picture fading in an out, which can happen with analog and cable TV. Your picture information is sent over the airwaves digitally instead of bit by bit like with analog. You either have a decent picture or nothing at all.

Another advantage is that analog is going the way of the dodo in February of 2009 in America. England is already making the switch to High Definition Television (HDTV) and so are other countries. Standard analog televisions will no longer work in February of 2009, when the standard broadcasting format changes entirely to HDTV.

The government is even sponsoring low-cost conversion boxes because the American government needs to have its citizens hypnotized into being passive sheep. This is easier for them than lowering the cost of taxes, health care, food and utilities. Satellite TV receivers are already equipped to handle HDTV.

Disadvantages

There are so many disadvantages to getting a satellite TV receiver that you really should not look into it unless getting cable is completely out of the question. First off, the picture quality is not as good as satellite TV receiver manufactures make them out to be. They often fragment into a series of tiny little squares or different colors that can suddenly flash. This is dangerous for anyone prone to headaches, migraines or epilepsy.

Satellite TV receivers also have to be attached to the outside of your house, where they often are damaged by the weather – and then you have to buy a whole new dish. You also often need to subscribe to channels you never watch or services you'll never use just to be able to watch what you do want to watch. They are also incredibly expensive in comparison to cable TV or watching TV on your computer.

So, ask yourself – do you really need television in your life that badly?
