Would You Buy a Playstation 3 for Playstation 3 Graphics?

As expected to a console that's so labeled with cutting edge technology, Playstation 3 is expected to pop games up that feature the best –at least as visuals go.

Guess what, yes it does. A number of Playstation 3 games have flexed the graphical muscles of this system one time or another. And truth to tell, I've never seen a skin texture so lifelike than Fight Night: Round 3. Pixel shaders, environmental blending and anti-aliasing, there's only a few game that can rival the gritty atmosphere set inside Call of Duty 3. It is so realistic that these games could trigger mechanical response of even the most jaded players for its pragmatic realism.

The capability of a Playstation 3 graphics is evidently showcased on these games:

Call of Duty 3

Though also released on several platforms, there is a stark difference in terms of visuals with the Playstation 3 release of the title. The shadows were rendered realistically, even distant explosions look so convincing that when I played the game, I just stood there looking at everything, actually checking if there are clippings that could give the game feel away. And there was none, soldiers act individually, very individually that there isn't two sprites caught doing similar action.

Fight Night: Round 3

Fight Night: Round 3 is really breaking grounds for Playstation 3 graphics with its player models. I have yet to see a game that depicts player models with the most realistic skin textures. Even the knockout replays gets so convincing that it is actually nauseating, but fun at times to see a face gets distorted by a knockout punch.

Genji: Days of the Blade

Though this game may fail somewhat it the gameplay department, it's no doubt that Genji: Days of the Blade is one of the best examples of Playstation 3 graphics capability. Lifelike mythical Japanese characters are so well made that it like watching a CGI movie animation.

But as far as a good game goes, graphics isn't the only constituent. And this is where some PS3 titles fail miserably. Take for instance Genji: Days of the Blade. It has elements for a great game but with so bland gameplay it seems SCEA was in a hurry to meet launching deadlines that the release was more a technical showcase for the PS3 than a complete game.

But PS3 does have a menu for better games with outstanding Playstation 3 graphics. Examples are mentioned, titles like Call of Duty 3, Fight Night: Round 3 and Resistance: Fall of Man are among the better carriers of the console expectation.

In a nutshell, because Playstation 3 is still in its infancy, many game developers are still learning their way around its complicated programming. And there had been speculative rumors that say PS3 programming is difficult. So, it may take a little while for the genre to release an exceptional game with interesting Playstation 3 graphics.
