When the Microsoft Xbox 360 debuted on the world market on May 2005, it was just hours later when Sony Computer Entertainment would announce the release window for the Sony Playstation 3. This Playstation 2's successor was slated for release on the world market somewhere spring of 2006. And during the convention, the SCE head Ken Kutaragi had allowed glimpses of the system with the introduction of it as "the supercomputer for computer entertainment".

That move was seen as a staying hand, so that Playstation's faithful will have something to look forward to. But it is seen as something more. Evidently there was a plan by Sony on how to blow a huge lead by Microsoft's Xbox 360, who previously had great success with their Playstation 2. Microsoft had started the game early, launching the Xbox 360 a year ahead of its competitors. And Sony gambled to ‘newer' technology to blow that huge head start.

Post launch, the Sony Playstation 3 hardly resembles a champion. Yes, it might look like a champion, with its glossy black hardware but it didn't work like one. There were Playstation 3 problems that weren't seen previously. And these Playstation 3 problems were very disappointing.

The first of the Playstation 3 problems is its ludicrous price. When the Xbox 360 came out, the accompanying price tag at $400 was already considered expensive. Having the Playstation 3 priced at $600 is already too much. And anyone who gets a console at that virgin price should be considered lucky; Playstation 3s are bought by unscrupulous marketers only to be resold to sites like eBay for several times its original price, almost at $2,000.

All those technology seemed to be its collapse –at the moment. It is frustratingly hard for game programmers to build a magnificent game on a system half of the concepts they know nothing about. Up to this date, game developers for the Playstation 3 are still finding their way in the system's complex mechanics, so those hard-to-please gamers should sit this one out. Though, of course, given time these developers will master its inner workings and then deliver a game that can tap its potential to the fullest. That is until then.

Because everything's new, it's natural that there would be Playstation 3 problems, glitches and bugs here and there. But when you pay for a system that ridiculously expensive it's also natural to expect a gaming experience that could warrant the cost. The Playstation 3 problems just couldn't deliver: an inferior PlayStation Network that works sub-par than Xbox Live, a downward compatibility that's too finicky, a slew of lame games exacerbated by the fact that there aren't many to choose from. And the price, no one misses the price. With these Playstation 3 problems, it's hard to recommend it to someone.
