Fox Television

Launched on the 9th of October 1986, Fox Broadcasting Company is a United States television network which is owned by the Fox Entertainment Group, and has grown to be among the highest-rated network amongst young adults since its launching in 1986. Fox television or the FOX name itself has been utilized on different international entertainment channels associated with the News Corporation, including Japan, Serbia, Italy, Spain, South America, Portugal, Turkey, and Australia (FOX8), though they don’t necessarily have the same programming aired as that with the US network.

From the very start of Fox television broadcasting, it showed itself as a cheeky, edgy, youth-oriented TV network in contrast to its competitors. The first prime time shows of Fox television, which were first aired on Sunday nights on the 5th of April 1987, featured a comedy regarding a dysfunctional family entitled Married…with Children, and a variety called The Tracey Ullman Show. The former became the network’s big hit, which aired for eleven seasons, and the latter produced the longest-running sitcom (animated series) in history. Other Fox television success shows were The Simpsons aired in 1989 and is seen to be aired at least till 2008; one-hour police drama, 21 Jump Street was another initial success; and original Sunday shows including It’s Garry Shandling’s Show and Duet sitcoms.

On the 11th of July 1987, Fox television first aired its Saturday night programs more than four weeks, with some shows now rather forgotten such as The New Adventures of Beans Baxter, Mr. President, Second Chance, and Women in Prison. The following two years witnessed the prologue of a show that profiled true crimes America’s Most Wanted, and a reality TV show documenting every day actions of police officers entitled Cops. These two shows are among the longest-running shows of the network that brought reality TV to the conventional.

Regardless of the network’s few successful TV programs, they did not have major market share until the middle of the 1990’s when the News Corporation purchased more television station groups. In 2005 of February, Fox television hit a milestone through achieving its very first sweeps-month triumph amongst all viewers. The success was hugely owed to its Super Bowl XXXIX broadcast, as well as the strong point of 24, American Idol, The O.C, and House. At the end of the television season of 2004-2005, Fox television positioned No.1; it was the first-ever in its history amongst the 18-49 demographic mainly pleasing to advertisers.
