Understanding Abdominal Fat

There are a lot of misconceptions about abdominal fat, particularly how one's body gets rid of it. Abdominal fat may be the most misunderstood of all body fats, being the most given a "mythology" by exercise regimens and workouts.

Here are some misunderstandings about abdominal fat. An understanding abdominal fat would greatly aid exercisers in "shedding" them away. Thinking that working one's abdomen would eliminate abdominal fat isn't exactly true. To further explain this, understanding the nature of fat, in general, would greatly help.

Why the Existence of Abdominal Fat

The "decision" as to where one's fat gets stored is dependent of one's body, which is pretty much mapped out by one's genetics. Abdominal fat gets to one's abdomen because of basic biomechanics, as fat stored in one's abdomen is a survival strategy, given that fat stored in one's mid section doesn't require a lot of energy to carry around.

Example, since the human body stores fat as portable energy, storing them in one's toes or fingers, would defeat the purpose of storing portable energy as carrying the excess weight in one's fingers or toes would require more calorie burns. The mid section, where we find abdominal fat, would be the best place to store that portable energy.

Fat Cells and Storage

The human body stores fat where fat cells are. To prove this point, studies have shown that those who undergo liposuction develop fat in other body locations. Their fat gets redistributed to other fat locations.

Let's say Frank, whose eating lifestyle as developed quite a gut for him. After a liposuction, Frank's eating habits haven't changed, resulting to his legs getting fatter. Since the bulk of Franks belly fat was taken out during his liposuction procedure, and since he hadn't changed his eating lifestyle, the body has to store all that fat, and ends up storing that fat in other areas, with more fat concentration. The human body stores fat where fat cells are.

Abdominal fat is not exempted from this rule of fat.

The Bottom Line in "Shedding" Abdominal Fat
All in all, losing abdominal fat involves a mix between the right exercise and the right diet. Starving one's self wouldn't exactly yield the right results, as by starving one's self, one would be exposing oneself to a variety of strength related problems.

The consumption of lesser calories, meaning dieting, which means eating the right foods at the right amounts, would be the best "product" for reducing abdominal fat.

Herbal alternatives, exercise machines and alternative exercise regimen, may boast benefits, but there is absolutely no alternative to simple dieting and regular exercise when it comes to losing abdominal fat.
