As opposed to eating French fries and hamburgers, all we seem to be concerned of today is how much one weighs. Are they fat or are they skinny? We really don't look at a more profound angle concerning their health. Unfortunate but true, these attitudes sink in even into pregnancy.

Weight gain during pregnancy is one of the biggest concerns of women today. Due to the perfect figure we normally see on TV and magazines, it is likely for us to envy. First and foremost, it is very important to accept the fact that you will be gaining weight. Besides, you are meant to put on pounds to cope with your growing baby and your changing body. All of these are inevitable during pregnancy and all of these are meant to give your baby a good start in life.

Whether you like it or not, weight gain during pregnancy is unavoidable. In fact, your baby's growth and development mainly depends upon the weight you put on. However, proper eating and common sense should still prevail. Gaining just the right amount of weight all throughout your 9 months of pregnancy is essential to your baby's health. Not to mention would only take less time in shedding off after you give birth.

Don't be bothered if your friends gain this much but you gained a lot. Always remember that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to weight gain during pregnancy. But there will always be an ideal way of gaining the right amount of weight. If you are of normal weight before conception, then the ideal weight gain is around 25-35 lbs. If you are underweight, then gaining to as much as 40 lbs is acceptable. However, if you are clinically diagnosed as obese, then you should not gain over 15 lbs.

The best approach to weight gain during pregnancy is to put on the weight slowly and steadily. The most important aspect is to keep an eye on your overall weight gain.
